HELP!!!! it's not working (newbie here)

Okay I'm a total newbie with this kind of thing so don't laugh.

I'm trying to play guitar through my computer using some VST guitar amps and Cantabile as the host program. The sound coming out of the speakers is just my guitar straight through the soundcard but no guitar amp sound. Funny thing is when I turn on some of the effects (like a flanger) in the amp model I hear the swirling of a flanger through my speakers but it is not on the guitar. It's like the plugins are loaded but for some reason my guitar sound is not going through them.

In Cantabile I have:

I have the guitar amp plugin loaded in rack 1

The input box at the top of Cantabile selected

I have the input connect box selected to connect the plugin to the audio input

What else do I need to do to get this working?

Also I noticed when I select the output menu for the audio target I don't see the name of the amp plugin there even though it's loaded in rack 1.

How do I fix this issue?
