has anyone tried this with the ipad, do I simply connect usb to camera kit ipad?

so basically the ipad doesn't need itself to be connected to a powered usb hub?
This device will then enable me to for example using beatmaker 2 sample from decks?.

please is the roland capture ex any good as wel, sold a focusrite 2i2 so looking at that as a comparsion.
