Dubspot brings you a sneak peek at Native Instruments' newest software synthesizer, Monark: a re-creation of classic analog monosynths like the iconic Minimoog Model D:

Cool,
Thanks for posting.

Whoooaaa
You can tune the oscillators! :o :-o

right off the bat

the 'classic' presets sound nothing like the sounds they are meant too

(could be partly down to his crap kybd skills)

sounds great, though i can't think why i would ever choose to buy this over diva

Something about the presenter subtly hints 'douche'..

I have to admit, it sounds pretty damn convincing. People want slag on it because it's another MiniMoog emulation, but from what I've heard, DIVA is the only real competition this going for it in the Moog department. Seems like they did a good job with this one.

Diva, taken on its own terms, stands up to the best of them and offers a lot more than a single emulation. So it's got nothing to worry about from this.

At the same time it's still not a perfect emulation of everything analogue by any means. If that doesn't matter to someone then I'm not sure what they're doing reading Monark threads ( ..looking for trolling opportunities or excuses to post more cat pics? :) )

Whether this improves on anything remains to be seen. It's a big "if" since Klaus Piehl (Minimax) hasn't had too much to trouble his sleep in the last decade. I expect it will, though, because it'd seem kinda dumb to release something as limited unless it does exactly what it says on the tin.

Whilst some complain about a lack of features and being monophonic (and act like the work contained in this isn't going to be found all over other NI products at some stage.. ) I'll be interested to hear how Monark handles things like voice levels and the VCA, plus feedback/distortion, and the upper frequency handling with the filter.

Either way, even if people aren't interested, it will hopefully - just as Diva has done - drive developers to consider how all parts of their sound engine interact with each other when it comes to sound, and that's probably a good thing, even if the goal isn't emulating something specifically.

Somehow they are good at making bad intro videos. But watching this one I am excited now. It's got just enough to be very useful in modern music and the attack sounds very good.

Being only monophonic though is not very good imo.

neither looking to troll nor post any pics

i was genuinely interested to hear this, and was very impressed by this short demo..but i don't own diva, and i'm not one to get moist-eyed about the mono aspect

so, i have the luxury that many of the original moog owners didn't have - the ability to choose a synth that offers so much more

still doesn't change the fact that it sounds great for what it is aiming at

that this quality is likely gonna make it's way into other areas of reaktor is what's REALLY exciting :)

I think it sounded excellent in this video.

Great overview. It looks like it's sounding very nice and the deeper functionality on the b panel is nice. The trolling on here about his playing in the video is ridiculous and pathetic.
I really like the GUI of it as well. I look forward to using this. It sounds like you can get really close to that alive feeling.
