MIDI connection between Novation LaunchKey 49 to Roland JV-1080 Super JV

OK folks, here's the challenge:

* Roland JV-1080 Super JV has 5 pin MIDI connectors.

* Novation LaunchKey 49 has one female USB connector (no 5 pin MIDI connectors)

How do I control the JV-1080 with the LaunchKey? I have a Roland UM-1EX (male USB to no 5 pin MIDI interface). I was thinking of buying a USB male-to-female adapter and using it to connect the Roland UM-1EX to keyboard and synth. Feasible?

The reason I'm providing the hypothesis and not actually testing it out is that I'm missing the Roland JV-1080 Super JV. I've got my eye on a reasonably-priced one and I'd like to have my theory validated/disproved before I go through the motions of acquiring it.

Thanks in advance for any advice. BTW I know there are better equipment combinations out there - both separately and combined but this is what I have to work with. This is a technical challenge.

You may want to try:
1.) Plug Um-1Ex into usb port at computer
2.) Plug JV-1080 into midi ports of Um-1Ex
3.) Plug Launchkey into usb port at computer
4.) Send midi to/from DAW to both devices (as needed) so that you are able to control JV-1080 with the Launchkey.

All this IF I understand your question correctly. You haven't said if you are using a DAW but this method should work if you are.

Good luck!

Happy musiking!
