Hallo KVR Community members,

I have an issue which often occurs during gameplay (extreme when playing Dragon Age 2), which is noises in my headphones whenever I move my mouse.

I did some research (most useful info. was from this community) - from where I learned to run msinfo32.exe and look for conflicht.

I did this, but sadly I don't know how to read it and make any sense out of it so I can replace the conflicted hardware.

My headphones are Bose Quietcomfort 3

It's not a resource conflict. The cause is your builtin sound chip is sitting on your motherboard, unshielded from the electro-magnetic hell inside your pc case. Radio frequency interference.... And you amplify it too loud, wearing headphones, so this annoying sound is right between your ears.

So buy a decent audio card. Not a SoundBlaster preferrably. Then put away the headphones, turn down the volume so not to bother the neighbours.
Oh and create some music instead of playing games. That's what the kvr forum is for ;-)

What OS you use ?

What mouse you use (wireless) ?

Noise when moving mouse
If it's a kind of squeaking noise, I wouldn't worry too much. Mice do that naturally.
Anyone who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.

What bertkoor said. It's interference. Best you can do is check Grounds here and there, maybe some Groundlift, but chances are if you have it, you keep it.

Some sound setups make it really bad, i had it once with a Tascam usb audio interface really bad.

My m-audio fw410 is dead silent.

My Creative XFI has it a little bit.

Best thing you can do is get a reasonable sound interface / card, and good cables to some extend.

I don't create music but I own a keyboard, is that good enough? ;) Creating music has never been my strong side, beside, I use my computer primary for programming... ANYWAYS, I'm getting off-topic here..

I have never invested money in a soundcard, so I know just as much about soundcards as I do about spaceships.

As Zeeo mentioned, his m-audio fw410 is dead silence but, after doing some reasearch I learned that I probably don't need a $190 soundcard to play games and listen to music - but again what can I expect when asking musicians/sound experts for hardware-advice.

Nonetheless, your advice and help has been helpful, so I thank you guys.

I guess I will continue searching for a soundcard for my PC :)
Oh, and PS. I actually own a copy of Ableton if that makes me more of a "kvr-member" ;)

I had this problem and fixed it by pluging my headphones in the back of the computer direct to the sound card instead of using the headphone out on the rom drive bay thing that came with my sound card.

That. It's perfectly normal. I have it on all my PC's and laptops. ^^

Two things it could be.

Power noise from the caps. Turn off EIST & C States (C1/C2/C3/C6), spread spectrum, thermal monitoring in the bios and see if it get's better.

If that doesn't work then as suggested above it could be noise on the board / sound chip. Buy one of the budget Asus Xonars.

This has happened with wireless mice/devices for certain people.

I have only ever heard this when using an internal soundcard, I suggest an external USB soundcard. Or least get a loan of one to verify the issue.

It's more than two things. ;) This was an old problem, but I had my Matrox G450, in the driver you could set whether the card would play PCI bus master or not. If it wasn't, the corded mouse would cause noise in the audio as you moved it. Point being, it can be a device driver configuration in your system that can cause it. So your summation above about a conflict is valid and can happen.

As suggested above, try a ground lift for a few minutes. I don't suggest it as a permanent solution, because well, it's dangerous in and of itself. If the problem goes away, it's a grounding issue. I've had that on several laptops; you unplug it from the wall and run on battery, the audio is perfect. Plug it back in, you get the pops/clicks when you move the mouse.
