Editing sf2 soundbanks

Hi! I am using Qsynth (and Zynaddsubfx) on my Linux laptop with an old inexpensive Casio "synth" (so-called) to control it. This is primarily for live performance use. I have lots of soundbanks but wish to edit them into my own custom one for Qsynth so I can layer and switch back and forth between favorite sounds quickly. I'd like to take, for example, the GM flute, EP, and synth-strings 1 & 2 from one sound bank, the Mellotron samples from another sound bank, and the bassoon and pads from a third, and create my own sound bank with them. How do I do this, do I need other software?
Also, is there a "manual" for Qsynth/Fluidsynth anywhere?
Thanks!
Marty

I'd recommend Viena (not to be confused with one other editor called "Vienna") for SF2 editing.

Maybe these programs can help you, but I don't know if they work in Linux:

They should. I have been using Viena with Crosssover (Wine) on Mac OS X.

so basically i just need a "soundfont editor?" OK, there is something called swami for Linux ("for editing and managing musical instruments for MIDI music composition"). I can try that, and if that doesn't work i should be able to run Viena under WINE (a Windows emulator). Give me a few days and i will post my results. Thanks!

WOW!! THAT was easy -- I was ready to save my first sf2 bank about three minutes after installing Viena. THANK YOU!!
