Hi folks.

In the past I've used Soundforge - which I loved but it's soooo expensive I'll probably never own a legit' version  . I know there are lots of cheap wav editors out there and not long ago I ended up buying NGwave http://www.ngwave.com/ ($39) because it was the only affordable one I could find which had graphical fades (essential for proper fade outs imho). The only thing I really missed from soundforge was good noise reduction, but I just found another affordable prog called acoustica http://www.aconas.com/ - (only $29!). It has noise reduction (by sampling a noiseprint), harmonization, high frequency enhancer, DX plugins, parametric eq etc. Anyhow, I think it's great so thought I would recommend it to anyone else out there who, like me, wants to stay with legit' software but can't afford the hugely expensive stuff..... and no I don't work for them! I just think they deserve the publicity :)

I've heard good things about this one. http://www.goldwave.com/

You can also try the really cheap versions of Acid. It can be used for wave editing.

I think I might have tried Goldwave in the past. I use Multiquence for video editing (by the same guy). I used to use it for mixing multiple wav files rendered in modplugtracker - thankfully I have a more efficient way of working now...!

What about the lighter version of Sound Forger? I think right now its called Screenblast Sound Forge and costs $70USD. I guess its a replacement for what used to be SF Studio or SF LE.

I think I disregarded that because it doesn't have the noise reduction plug-in, but apart from that it does look damn good

Isn't there a lite version of wavelab, too? Or maybe you can only get it as part of a bundle. Wavelab LE or something.

there's also Audacity, which is free and supports plugins. :)

Ever heard of Audacity? open source wave editor for windows, linux and mac, with MP3 and VST plugins support. Pretty cool soft actually.

i bought sound forge express or something like that yeas ago, for $70. then, about 6 months ago or so, there was an upgrade offer to go to sf 7 for either $99 or 150, i forget, but the punchline is i got sf7 for a total of less than $225, so i got lucky. i actually bought sf5 cheap version thinking you could compose and produce in it. right now, tho, i use sf7 in everything i do. so even at the full price, which is steep at like $400 0r 450 or thereabouts, it's worth it to me. course, my perspective is from the 'already been paid for point of view'! :D
i'd rather have a mullet than a comb-over.
fortunately, i have neither.

I would buy the downloadable version of Audiostudio (www,magix.com). Its around 40 Euro and basically Samplitude - an insane value for the money, a multitracker and a very good wave editor.

i've never been able to take to audacity.. if they'd just put a f**king dc 0 line down the f**king middle of the f**king waveform.. is that too much to ask? "yes, that's a good idea.." but do they do it?

other freeware alternatives.. yamaha's twe321 (think that's the name..) was developed for use w/ their samplers. it has assignable hotkeys, big plus, but no browse audition. overall, a simple but very usable package.

aah, link's dead - tiny, drop email :p

there is an ancient version of cooledit demo (pre-96) at www.dancetech.com in the files section - which does have browsing. so far, this has worked flawlessly installed on win xp.

the ce demos allow you to select 2 functions each time you open it.. one of which would always be the 'save file' function, so ie. just open it one time to do amplitude ops, close and reopen for eqing, et c.
if they'd just put a f**king dc 0 line down the f**king middle of the f**king waveform.. is that too much to ask?
that's a bit rude ain't it? grab the source code and add the line with your little hands, that's what open source is about...

This thread is funny - someone found a good and cheap
wave-editor and wants to tell us about it and all that everyone replies with is to name countless alternatives :?

Thank you for mentioning it JBravo - it really looks interesting and has a lot of features for it's price. :D
