I'd like to be able to watch the screen of my iPhone on my Windows PC (preferably larger) so I can look at the music apps while I'm playing them on my iPhone.

I know with AirPlay and some tools you can stream your mediacontent to your PC and I know with Cydia or some jailbreak you can manage some content but the restrictions I have is that I don't have a jailbreak on my iPhone nor am I interested in doing so.

So is there an iOS app or a windows program that lets you show your iPhone screen on your PC? I then also think it should be possible within an emulation environment to route the audio directly through a virtual MIDI cable to your DAW.

I have heard of Reflector but this only works for iPhone 4s and higher. iTools seems more like a manager and iPadian looks nice but I think it's limited to the apps in the native store and I doubt my musicapps are supported (Tropical Sun, Impaktor, Tachyon, Figure, Sunrizer XS, Cassini, NanoStudio, Garageband and ofcourse Audiobus).

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

There's iDisplay: http://www.getidisplay.com

It doesn't do audio yet, but supposedly they're working on it.

Right I connect the audio out from the iPhone or iPad to my interface, but mirror the iPad/iPhone screen.

Edit...

I should add I'm using it on Mac. It says PC too, which is why I posted, but it looks like there's some major differences between platforms as far as options are concerned.

From what I read they fixed the audio but the funcitonality of this app is exactly the opposite of what I'm looking for. This app allows you to see your PC desktop on your iPhone and I need it the other way around (plus I already have some apps such as Teamviewer to control my PC from my iPhone) ;)

Btw. A split solution routing audio to my interface and graphics to my monitor would be fine although my audio interface has no USB-input so that would be a problem as well.
This adapter allows you to playback media content to your TV, not apps and not to your PC.

I appreciate the responses but I get the idea I somehow failed explaining my question so again:

I use musicapps on my iPhone such as synths. Since the controls are rather cluttered and the screen of the iPhone is pretty small it's difficult to work with 'em, so I'd like to mirror the screen of my iPhone to my PC (in a docked window probably). If possible I'd also like to be able to then use my mouse to control the parameters of the app on my monitor but that would just be a plus.

If I would be able to just look at my monitor and see the screen of my iPhone I'd be happy adjusting the parameters using a stylus on my iPhone.

Secondly, I am wondering if it would be possible (by using emulation or another method) to route the ouput of my iOs apps to my DAW using virtual MIDI cables.

Hope this description was a little bit clearer.

Hey Spiritos,

At least on Mac, iDisplay does mirror the app, to your monitor. It's not just for using the idevice as a second monitor.

I don't see the same things mentioned for PC, so I'm not sure if it does this, but again... on Mac, it does show the app on the computer screen.

As far as being able to use a mouse to control the app, I haven't seen anything yet.

Hi elxsound,

Thanks again. I could give it a try I suppose but I've also read some worrying feedback about iDisplay messing up monitor settings on the PC where some eventually resorted to reinstalling the complete OS.

In general I always find it a pain in the ass to work with (ported) iOS software on a windows machine. Even iTunes is a horror. I almost feel there's a conspiracy between Mac and it's developers putting little nags in software trying to convince you to switch OS ;)

I haven't found any resources yet about mirroring for windows but I'll keep searching.

An interesting development is here:

I't just not ready but I'll keep track of progress. Would be great to see it implemented.

I'm actually a little disappointed/surprised no on seems to have an answer to my question as I know a lot of people integrated an iPad in their setup and I'd expected someone to have tweaked about already.. :?

That does look interesting! Looks like a long way still until full featured though.

Perhaps a stylus on the iPad would simulate mouse granularity in control. I have fairly small fingers. I can't imagine what someone like Tony Robbins does with an iPad.....

I've tried Airplay, Reflector and iTools. All not working.

iDisplay is the only one left for me to try but in the store it's 80% lowest rating and numerous people who used it on a PC had lasting problems with their monitors being screwed up so I'm reluctant to give that a try.

I do use a stylus on my iPhone and it's better than nothing but alas..

Guess I'll have to wait when I can upgrade to 4s or 5 and then use Airplay.

Just a note about using external display. I have used both the HDMI output adapter, and airplay, and found that since I can't see my finger's position on the big screen, I find myself looking up at the big screen and then back down at the iPad repeatedly. This makes it easy to lose track of where I'm at. It's not a huge deal, but now I only use the large displays for presentation use.
Oh, and cool fractal apps like Hypnoglyph or Kaleidoscope.

I hear you. I was hoping whith mirroring you could then control the mirrored version on your PC with a mouse and I think Airplay can do that.

So I'm left with the choice of waiting another year for my contract to expire so I can get a 4s or 5 or maybe save up for a secondhand iPad. I'll keep an eye on the marketplace ;)
