Hello, I'm going to make a diy fuzz face clone using the schematic from this site:

I already have half of the stuff I need bought from radio shack, but I need to buy the rest online. I plan on making the one with the silicon transistors, and im also going to wire in a true bypass switch. It says that the transistors found in a fuzz face vary, and gives a list on what they could be: bc108c, bc109, bc109c, bc183l and bc209c

My question is: would it matter what combination of transistors I pick?

Also there is an 8k2 resistor in the circuit, what does the 2 mean? Couldn't I just use an 8k ohm resistor?

The sound can change a bit, but only you can say if it's better or worse. Experiment. The main problem with modern transistors is that they can have too much gain for this crappy old circuit.

8k2 means 8.2k. It stems from a time when schematics could be of such an atrocious quality that the decimal point was easily lost. You wouldn't be sure if they meant 82k or 8.2k so they wrote 8k2 to make it clear.
