Hi guys,

I am very interested in Granular Synthesis, and making weird sounds. I am looking for Software Synthesizers that try to push the boundaries of the digital realm (not interested in emulations of analog hardware synthesisers).

I have read many reviews around and the following looks promising:

Zebra: I have the demo and I really like this synth, I think you can get really creative, but Im not sure if its great for Granular Synthesis.

Omnisphere: From what Ive listen it has great sounds, and many tweaking possibilities although its expensive, and it could be my only synth.

Reaktor: Ive seen ensembles like s-layer and looks really promising, but dont know how are the other free ensembles. This seems to be very good for granular Synthesis.

Absynth: looks good as well.

I know Reaktor is great for creating your own synths, but thats something that Im not interested in at this moments (it could take me a year to build a synth and forget about making music).

I could get Komplete for about 300$ as well, but seems overwhelming to have so many samples and instruments; I currently have Ableton and Reason, a day has 24 hours and I prefer to concentrate on a few instruments.

If you know of any other great synths to make other worldly sounds, or sample manipulation effects please let me know.

reaktor is on special at the min,andfor granular it canot be beaten! the user library is full of ensembles as well as the ones included with the program

zebra while being pretty awesome a a synth, graular isnt something i associate it with.

alchemy is also a powerhouse of sample manipulation

for this reason id choose alchemy over omnisphere, if you want to load your own samples that is.

if you search the effects forum for "hourglass" you can be having granular fun within the net 10 mins

I'm always happy to get a chance to big up psyGEN, this synth is just unbeliveable, so many options to build your own sounds, but also lots and lots of quality patches included.

Sometimes I just turn it on to listen to it

Reaktor cannot be beaten for granular synthesis and creative, expressive sampling in general. Get it now while you can for $99 and download my free Frame sampler which is simple but powerful.

Since you have Live why not get Max4Live? That opens up a lot of granular options, including several pre built instruments like Granular 2 and lots of granular fx too.

Looks great, but its 80$ vs Reaktor 100$, and Reaktor seems to offer more possibilities.

Didn't see that, with Reason you got Malström and you should thus be well covered for granular options I think.

That seem very interesting, Ive checked Granulator from Robert Henke.

But Im on Live 8 and an Upgrade fro Live 9 Max for Live would be 300$; that is quite expensive.

I could probably get Reaktor 100$ plus Zebra 200$ = 300$ It seems that in this way I will have a broader spectrum of sound creation possibilities.
