Can of Worms Now Open: Mac vs. PC

I'm on the edge of a major home and studio hardware/system upgrade, (I know, insane to do both at once!) and my work set-up will definitely stay in the mac world, as our whole company is.

But as I look to replace my old Mac G5 at home, the price/performance difference between Windows based and Mac OSX machines is pretty startling, and I wanted to get some input from users here. Ideally, I'd like to transfer Pro Tools sessions between the two worlds, and keep my VIs and plugs identical on both machines, as they are now.

I'm not trolling or trying to start some flame wars about the obvious superiority of your beloved, and the pure, unmitigated s***iness of your deloved. I'd just like your experiences if you've migrated from one to the other, or shared sessions and plugs between two operating systems.

I've been a Mac guy for thirty years, and have always liked the experience. But I'm willing to be flexible when money is involved!

But PCs just give me a head-ache for now though too - it almost physically hurts to try and get them back working when they common-sense fail - somehow macs seem a little more familiar/intuitive for me to troubleshoot.

When did you last try? I haven't had any problems (and therefore need for troubleshooting) at all in years Not since Windows 7 anyway, and as far as I can recall even Vista was a pretty smooth ride for me.

But to be honest, I've never tried a Mac so I'm not familiar with the experience on that platform.

Same, W7 are running very smooth over here on my desktop and laptop. Best Windows ever!

I manage all my files myself, custom installations, files and folders, backup stuff manually on DVD and do not use any tools that potentially convert my files like iPhoto on Mac does. I'm on PC.

On Mac, all media has an easy software solution. Music: Garageband, Backup: TimeCapsule, Photo: iPhoto, Video: iMovie, Media: iTunes. It makes it seem easier to do all that - but I feel Mac has you by the balls once you have your data sitting within their solutions.

I doubt there is any financial reason not to find local gamers who upgrade
like most people change socks, and pick up a win7 machine on the cheap,
to augment a mac that seems to be at the $sweet$ spot, should there be one.
