This thread is about getting people on this forum to exchange Facebook likes, but more importantly Facebook chatter.

I started this thread:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=384574

Which has generated quite a few follows for quite a few people, and now I want to see if the same thing will work for Facebook.

Just a quick explanation. The SoundCloud exchange is about numbers. The idea is purely about boosting SoundCloud numbers. It's not really about interacting with other users, but I'm really happy to see that people have interacted with other users and enjoyed each other's music which means that it has been more successful than I thought it would be. Facebook is a bit different to SoundCloud in that it's not just numbers that matter. What matters on Facebook is the amount of chatter that goes on on your page, and around your page. What matters is "talking about this". We can't just repeat the same idea with Facebook. So, what I suggest is that we like each other's pages, but also write a handful of genuine comments on each other's pages and posts.

Try to find something positive about the other people's Facebook page and post something. It could be a comment about their cover photo, a comment about songs they have posted from SoundCloud, or you could put new posts on their page. Just try to be nice and help each other out. Plenty of people like my page, but very few people comment and get the chatter going.

Guidelines
-If possible, try to post as your artist page name so we can keep track of who is who
-Generally aim toward getting the conversation going on the pages you are posting on
-Don't spam their page with your stuff
-You must post at least a couple of things on each person who joins this thread's Facebook page.
-Make your facebook Url big and standout so everybody can see it easily.
-Only post pages - not personal facebook timelines, or groups.

So this idea kinda died. It's strange considering the SoundCloud thread went nuts.

Can I ask why people don't seem to feel comfortable doing the same thing for Facebook? Is it because you don't have a Facebook page, and/or don't want one?

Im more into MyBookYourFace.com

Personally it's because I don't invite strangers to be friends on Facebook. My Facebook is for family and friends and I don't really consider it the same as Soundcloud which is really aimed at anyone who might appreciate any music I produce.

Just didn't seem like two things on a par with each other.

+1

I didn't do the Soundcloud one even tho I'm there too because there really didn't seem to be an upside to doing so and I didn't want to feel obligated to listen to someone else. I'll listen if I have time and am curious enough, but otherwise, meh.

I don't get it. Perhaps this stems from misunderstanding Facebook? I feel the same way about my personal facebook account, but that's what pages are for. Pages allow you to advertise something and also allows you to post on certain things as the page. It's really an indispensable tool for artists because it allows you to keep in touch with your fans and also allows you to detach your artist persona from your actual identity. Apart from that, if you don't have a facebook page, a lot of venues etc. won't even give you a look in for gigs. I put this in the guidelines:
Only post pages - not personal facebook timelines, or groups.
You can create a page here.

You don't have to listen to other people's music. It was really a numbers thing - essentially a way of playing the system. Loads of other people do it in different ways. The bonus of starting that thread was that it turns out that people really enjoyed it and really got in to the other artists' music.

Facebook chatter is virtually the same as hard currency because you can pay a lot of money for facebook advertising. I'd still like to get this going but perhaps there is a general feeling that Facebook is a no go zone for this kind of thing?

I would be less inclined to do the soundcloud thing. empty numbers, what kind of world do we inhabit with that? but my facebook is already more noise than I want to contend with. I had a 'page' for a short while but it didn't make a lot of sense to do both, the usual suspects will pay attention to me posting music as the person they knew but ignore the band page thing pretty much.

there is no upside to either for me. If I ran a label with a roster of artists and trying to sell physical product I'd have a FB page.

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Yeah, a LOT of people on this site must be really old or just really uptight. Many KVR users are anti-Facebook. In fact, I've seen more anti-Facebook people on KVR than any other site. It's funny.
