*Back after a summer hiatus... travelling and finally getting around to moving things to my new computer, which I bought about a year and a half ago.

I've said goodbye to some old software and hello to a couple of new things.

Will endeavour to catch up on my cafe listening over the next little while.

The tonal quality in this is excellent Matt.
The chinese sounding violin/voice hybrid caught me unawares. Beautiful sound and great vibrato on it , although the melody was a little strange.
Also thought in the 2nd half , when the higher frequency rhythm parts come in , that they could be a db or two louder , and a bit less abrupt initially as its an unusual time signature and takes a slower introduction until the mind catches up with the timing differences between the deep perc rhythms that dominate the first half , and the new counter-rhythm that you introduce in the second half. The two work really well together , and I love the complexity of it all and these are just minor observations to improve an already brilliant track
As always , I really connect with the leftfield-ness of it all. Its a trapezoid peg in a world of musical round holes , and thats what is great about your music. You define your own terms and parameters and constantly stretch yourself to seek out the unusual ground that a lot shy away from. Big respect for your creativity and unfettered imagination !

bftucker - let's see, Pianoteq on the umm, piano.

Synplant is doing all the synths, and I think they're all running thru Permut8. Silk's duduk is the sax-ish instrument, doubled by another Synplant. The demented latin ungroove is a combination of Machinedrum running thru the Sherman FB and Stylus RMX. Trilian on the bass. Think that's it.

Chris - yes, that groove combo was a challenge to balance, and I don't like to spend too much time on these things, so I think I just gave it my best shot. I initially had the slower groove starting first and then added the other, but I found once one hears the slower groove in isolation it makes it impossible not to follow it in the combined groove, if that makes sense, and this, to my ears, made the combined groove not work... so I opted to start the grooves simultaneously... ok I'm rambling, many thanks for your observations, much appreciated!

Welcome back Matt, Good to see that you haven't "lost it"

I don't know about you, but I hate setting up computers. It's too much like the day job for me. When my last computer died, it took me about a month of messing with the new one so I was happy with it.

I liked this piece, especially at 2AM. You established a nice spacious atmosphere with the delayed piano, and the glitched Synplant sounds were nice too. The duduk player didn't stick around for long enough. You should pay him more. I loved the percussion and the outro.

Hey Matt, was wondering where you'd got to! Loving the ambient noodles and the piano sound is gorgeous. The drum groove is deliciously odd.. Delicate and completely nuts at the same time! Nice work

Tim - yes, it was a daunting task moving computers. Previously I've used Apple's utility to transfer everything from one computer to the next, but this time I felt there was a lot of legacy material I didn't want to bring along, so I did it pretty much from scratch... installs, passwords, registration, the whole enchilada. Glad it's over... well, a few loose ends yet to tie up.

Good to hear you back Matt! This is an excellent track. Lovely the gentle echo with the piano. I am a sucker for the single note on a piano. Wow the sax synth is so expressive, sounds like an animal wailing! The beats were jarring at first but soon found their place amongst the other sounds, or was that just me I wonder!
