I haven't been able to find a plugin that does this in VST3 format where it would be so useful. I'd welcome to be proven wrong.

It would be a simple VST3 capable plugin, for the sidechain functionality, that consists of an Envelope Follower followed by a VCA with the following controls:

Tracking Speed: how fast the envelope follower tracks the input
Range: the amount of dB change allowed
Depth: the ratio of input signal to effective dB variation (multiplier)
Inversion switch: inverts the VCA control signal (- gain instead of + gain)

The input could optionally be fine tuned by using a high-pass filter and a low-pass filter (-18 dB/oct or steeper).

The idea is to simply control the gain of one track by another without using compression. You could set up gain relationships between tracks using multiple instances and settings (post-instance sends to other instances). You could also use multiple instances as a VCA group, controlling levels via pre-fader sends from a muted track with a tone generator.

I don't get why Steinberg doesn't have this. If it doesn't exist, I figure someone already building VST3s could make it fairly easily.
