So,
long story short, i might be going on the road for a couple of months, and i'm taking with me a minimal set of "tools" for producing music abroad:

A laptop
iRig Keys
iCon iControls
Scarlett 2i2
A condenser mic
KRK KNS6400 headphones

The only thing missing is , well, some kind of speakers for reference and tracking\mixing.
Do you know of any speakers that will be portable and whose sound is decent enough for music production on the go?

Maybe someone here have a good experience with some desktop speakers he considers as relatively flat in frequency response?

Define portable and "on the road", I think that my Yamaha HS50s are pretty portable. If I had to get by with less, I'd probably go with headphones and one of those focusrite VRM boxes.

Im a little short on money so the Genelecs won't do it. Portable for me are ones that doesnt weigh more or less 3 kilos.

I own IK Multimedia's ARC2 and can take it with me, does it give me more flexibillity in my portable speaker selection?

I think the best solution will be to get the flatest pc speakers i can get...i heard Microlab have some nice models, anyone tried them? Some say that their model with the yellow cone woofers uses the same drivers as KRK's Rokit.

Genelec 6010's are quite a bit cheaper and are the size of logitech computer speakers. They're surprisingly dense and heavy, which keeps them free of the cabinet resonance that you get with flimsy computer speakers.

Also, you're exactly the person IK created the iLoud for and I imagine they'll have some sort of ARC integration for it:

Yess i have seen it a couple of months ago, but i have no clue about when it will actually be available, do you have some insider info?

It looks like it can be the best portable solution of all.

haha i sure love my set of cans, but from time to time i want to be able to reference my work on some speakers. Anyone tried Microlab's speakers? They get great responses and seem pretty neat:

I'd be all over that if Arc is integrated! I was going to mention the Focal CMS40s, very high quality little speakers, may lack the low end you need but superb mids and highs IMO, very neutral but a little pricey.

I don't think ARC is integrated but I would be surprised if they don't have some kind of optimization when working with ARC. Anyway, you're right, built-in ARC would make it pretty cool.

On the cheap, Fostex PM 0.3 or 0.4 are decent and closer to neutral than most in the micro size / sub $200 price range.

Decent portable speakers for tracking\mixing on the road?
