I like Thesys quite a bit, though there is definitely room for improvement. I'd suggest deleting all the presets with either "Bank" or "Program Change" in the name though.

There are plenty in the user library - I built this one to be more to my own liking. Update comes with a Lemur layout.

Primarly, yes.
But you can create step sequences (and even chord sequences). THey are both very intuitive and powerful, so i'd suggest to try them.
You can't really program drum patterns, but for synths lines "à la 303" it's the perfect tool.
