Heya,
At the word of Propellerheads,
this thread will be locked and links removed.
I have cleared it for now with the KVR mods,
and have queried at Props forum.

Rebirth's installer has been modified to run on 64 bit Windows.
I have it successfully up in 7 & 8.
Here is a .pdf explaining how to do it->
http://www.onetriberecords.com/rebirth_on_windows.pdf

I'm feeling it has worth,
make sure and check the demo .rbs G-Spot to see
that it still sounds sweet as.

The help menu fix is necessary,
but painless.
Just follow the prompts from the error u will receive
to get the Windows support file from Microsoft.

There is talk of a mobile version that doesn't require
the CD, but I have not tried it.
Information is at the Rebirth forum.

If you want to do this,
here is your neat anti-aliased icon,
created by me->

njoy and thanks to chk071 for letting me know-
Gonna use it a lot again
I wonder what I want in here

:tu:

Saw your post at the Propellerhead forum btw, you put it a bit wrong there. You don't modify the Rebirth binary in any way. It is just an installer. Plain and simple. It only makes the installation process compatible with newer Windows OS's, as those don't support 16-bit installers (afaik). It doesn't mess with any of Rebirth files or whatever. So i think your concerns whether Propellerhead will be ok with this are a bit unfounded. Don't worry. :)

Post

Thanks for the assurance, you're prolly right.
Just don't want to get Props out of joint,
I stumbled into breaching their NDA once.
It's best to clarify legitimacy-
hmm also with the distribution of their installer

Yeah, I realized that my thread title at Props is wrong,
but you can't edit thread titles I find.
Oh well, maybe they will let us modify the binary

I have my doubts tbh. :D Will be pretty clear though when they read your post. :) Interesting in any case, what the legal status of the installer is. My guess is, as i wrote, that it's perfectly fine. Besides making the installation possible, and not modifying any of Rebirth files, they probably will be happy when people are able to use it on Windows Vista/7/8.

Post

Ah...for a moment I was hoping that there was a native 64 bit version...not sure I want to just use this workaround for it.

Post

There's really no fuss about this workaround. It's just an exe you have to execute which lets you install Rebirth. The only problem with it is, that it always installs Rebirth in c:/Rebirth RB-338. I'm not sure if that changed, maybe the installer was updated since i used it. None of the Rebirth files are modified, nothing in your system gets modified, unless you need the help file for Rebirth, then you have to download an (official) file from Microsoft to your system.

Post

Well the first thing that came to mind was ReWire, which I wouldn't be able to use with a 64 bit host if this is still the 32 bit version.

Post

True. At least Reaper seems to have a Rewire wrapper though, which enables you to use Rewire in the 64-bit version. Afaik neither Reason nor Rebirth are 64-bit anyway. Is there any Rewire application which is?

Post

Reason is 64 bit now, and so is the implementation of ReWire. I probably wouldn't use Rebirth much anyway, but it would be good to have available if it was 64 bit

Alright, i didn't know that, sorry. I doubt that Rebirth will be made 64-bit. Now that it is discontinued freeware, i can't see why they would put more work into it.

Yeah, I can't see the Props doing it - I just wondered if it they had let another developer work on it.

does anyone know how i can get rebirth running on windows 10?

i have been trying various installers, but even when ti appears to install, it dosn't load past the notice telling me the help crap is missing which is not relevant to win 10 apparently as it dosn't use it/them in that old form.

is there a get around?

i am really desperate to get using it.

Post

It is described here: http://www.onetriberecords.com/rebirth_on_windows.pdf under point 2.2 how you can get the missing Windows Help Viewer version. Should work under Windows 10 too.

Post

Cool, sometimes I still can't get things to work on x64, I forgot where that extra user-x86 thing was, if needed.

I still try to install everything as 32-bit, and sometimes I find neither seems to work?! what the, billy gates.
