just now, i installed some arturia demos and the default folder was again STEINBERG vstplugins, wtf? man we moved on long time ago and steinberg isnt the typical vstplugin folder (anymore?).
there are still many installers which do it, it pisses me off to always read steinberg, as it's the standard company for vstplugins, BS!

it's in your registry: i had the same issue with discoDSP after installing DiscoveryPro.

you can change the default vst install under:

Code: Select all

(x32):
  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VST\VSTPluginsPath
(x64):
  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VST\VSTPluginsPath
  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\VST\VSTPluginsPath
good idea is to save the reg befor you do any changes.

It`s not a bug... it`s a feature!

I hear you man! It would be nice to see them find their own named folder like Uhe.

If a plugin isn't going to use the default Steinberg default, what default should it use, then? How the hell does it know your preferred default exists, let alone what it is?
You can change that default, so it's your responsibility, but software isn't psychic.
And anyway, if your vst folder isn't at the default location, don't do a default install.

So all your plugins wind up in different places?

of course not, create the directory first and yes browse for that folder but it would be nice if the product you are installing could find it.Uhe software can do it.

Uhe software can find its own default folder before its ever been installed?

Well, programs also use Program Files, or Program Files (x86), as the default folder, even though i maybe want them in another folder... considering that Steinberg invented VST, and has been the industry standard for years, it is not really surprising. What's the fuss about it anyway, if you can easily change it. I have to do that with nearly everything i install.

Why is it stupid exactly?

If you haven't changed the default, then what should the default default to? You're trying to suggest that it should be something that is specific to you, but if it were it wouldn't be the bloody default, would it. That's why you have to customise your own default; because it can't.

Do you not understand what a default is?

Create a random folder somewhere called u-he and the installer checks all your hard drives for that? Sounds unlikely. What happens when you have two folders called u-he.

Hmmm ,good point. It is possible that I had already installed Uhe previously and the installer knew where to look.
Sorry,my mistake.
