So when changing volume levels, should I do it with the sound interface (Scarlett 2i2) or windows?

which one do I leave at Max Volume?

Also I use ableton and should i still leave delay compensation on?

First, you should never use any device at max volume. Aside from running the risk of blowing eardrums and speakers, you have no headroom should you need to increase volume. I run all my gear at 50% max, or less, and adjust as needed.

Second, (this assumes you mean you are running both Windows sounds and an audio interface) if you are using an audio interface why are you running Windows sounds? You should probably disable Windows sounds so as not to interfere with your DAW. Having a "ding" go off during a recording session may not be ideal.

Unless of course you have a specific reason for running the Windows sounds which you have not mentioned.

Can't help you with the delay compensation question as I do not use it.
