I work mostly with freeware. I only own a few pieces of software, I have very little budget for this. Recently, I am in need of some more (drum software). But before I invest, I wonder if I can safely assume that there will most likely be sales around Thanksgiving, Xmas, New Year, etc. So, should I wait until winter to buy anything?
I'm not familiar with this market so I thought I'd check here.
And what is a good way to learn about these sales?

One would type in say "Fabfilter Christmas/Winter Sale" into Google.

They tend to repeat year on year.

Yeah around xmas time is great for sales, lots of software companies do 50% off sales

And this site is probably the best place to find out about sales, just checkout the homepage on a daily basis as it has all the latest sales from software companies. Also lots of great bargains to be had in the market place section of this site

Stay alert on Nov 29, Black Friday. There's usually a lot of great of one-day and weekend bargains then.

Black Friday, Christmas, sometimes New Years, and quite often summer. And I'm sure other times too, but those are the ones you're guaranteed to see lots of sales.

Great idea! Didn't know about the charity auction. I like Poise and do want to get it but it doesn't have a sequencer or MIDI grooves or anything that will help me get started on making beats. But I've demo'd it and it's a slick sampler.

And folks, don't forget that in recent years Cyber Monday (the Monday after American Thanksgiving) has been gaining traction as a sales day. It's like Black Friday for online retailers.

Dude, I already know what I want to buy, I don't just want to buy anything that's on sale. The question was about helping me figure out if and when WHAT I WANT will go on sale.

I agree. I rarely shop for clothes and stuff like that and I see those windows displays that constantly have the "sale" sign and shake my head and walk by. With software though, I have very little experience purchasing and a small budget. For instance, I loved fxpansion Tremor but there's no way I can justify purchasing it at 149 USD. Maybe that's a good price for most, but not me, I'm just a hobbyist.

But xoxos, one of my goals for whenever I can find time is to sit down and try to learn some of your apps (hyperion, circuit, etc.) and if I can, I'm buying something from you this winter. I think your apps are special but I only say this because I "feel" their potential, but don't know how to use them yet.

In clothes shops, for example, super sales are always on (sigh) and you get, say, a sweater for $39.99 instead of regular $49.99. With audio software, if the regular price of a product is say $199, you can get an intro price of $179 upon release. Then after some time there's a 25% off super duper special and, wohoo, you buy it for only $149! ...only to find a few months later it's on a no-brainer sale for $79.

The question to ask before ever buying audio software is "do I really need it now?".

When are the plugin/software sales?
