I know this is not the best place to ask this but has anyone had some experiences with home theater speakers?

I am looking to buy a complete 5.1 home theater system for around +/- 800$. I know my studio speakers but I have no clue what's good in the consumer market.

I would like the sub to be at least 10" (if possible)
Any recommendations?

To be honest when I buy something like that I'm far more inclined to read the reviews and see what comes out on top. Haven't bought a system for a while, so I'd check the various online magazines, etc. that review stuff like this, then go to retailer web sites and see if consumers think the same thing or disagree.

See i don't even know the sites that review stuff like this. I'm not into consumer electronics...

I am gravitating towards bigger speakers tho. At least 5" would be great for satellites... Need some more research.

The Klipsch HD theater package(s) are terrific. I bought mine two years ago, and my dad bough the updated version last year. I paid like $400, and I think the set went up to $500 last year.

Please note they are not that great for music, but are very good for movies. Our studio monitors spoil us.

I suggest starting your research at Crutchfield.com; my audiophile friend told me to start there. Then but from whoever is best priced and trustworthy.

My local Video Only price-matches Amazon, so it's a no-brainer if they have what you want.

Well once you know the name of something you could Google the name and add "reviews" to the search term

Oh, receivers. Buy the best Onkyo (my choice), Yamaha (dad's), Denon (my best friend's), or Sony that matches your needs and you can afford. You will do fine for $800 total. Read Crutchfield and shop shrewdly. Amazon first-party is a good way to go as well, but the reviews are not, well, always written by well-qualified reviewers.
