Found this on Gearslutz, thought it was really interesting, thought I'd post it here...It's a New Order - Blue Monday documentary...

Never been mad keen on Blue Monday but True Faith is probably one of my top #5 tracks of all time. That is all.

New Order get too much cred.

Why they, as they are basically an indie band, is featured in the Synth Britannia documentary instead of pure synth acts like Howard Jones is beyond me.

cos they use a lot of synths....most of the bands in that doc are not pure synth bands

was looking fwd to it, but im not installng an app just to watch that....

what I found really interestings is how though that Blue Monday was inspired by

1. Ennio Morricone
2. Kraftwerk
3. Klein & MBO
4. Donna Summer
5. Sylvester

They took some old samples/ideas and recreated one of the biggest dance singles ever, Much like Arthur Baker did with Planet Rock.

Makes me feel not so bad now if I listen to music for ideas and inspiration! Because that's what I do alot to help me learn. Thought I was cheating!

on my phone it takes me to the Play Store...i'll try on the PC later...

I think the "Aaaaaaaah" Synthy Vocal sound was a direct sample of Kraftwerk! Not sure on that but maybe.

If you watch the video the bassline is kinda a variation of Sylvester - Mighty Real and the drum pattern is a copy of Donna Summer, the Guitar is a Morricone kinda copy, the other was the "Aaaaaaaaah" sound(Kraftwerk), cannot see how Klein & MBO is incorporated unless it was just an inspiration thing, it's all mentioned in the video.

According to Bernard Sumner, "Blue Monday" was influenced by four songs: the arrangement came from "Dirty Talk", by Klein + M.B.O.; the signature bassline with octaves came from Sylvester's disco classic, "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)"; the beat came from "Our Love", by Donna Summer; and the long keyboard pad on the intro and outro was sampled from the Kraftwerk song "Uranium", from the Radio-Activity album.

I understand the Sylvester link, but it's incorporated quite differently though:

The Klein and MBO link is more obvious though
