Hey all,

After itching for a bit more of a dynamic controller setup for jamming/writing music/doing stuff live, I picked up Max4Live, an APC40 and the J74 GrooveBox M4L Patch. The GrooveBox allows the APC40 to act as a step/pitch sequencer for instruments and drum racks, among other things.

I'm something of a newbie to this style of control - I started using Live last March and had occasionally messed around with a Launchpad, but never really explored the option for live control in depth. With this current setup, things have finally "clicked" - I've already had much more fun jamming out ideas than when I was just using my keyboard and manually adjusting things in Live.

Suffice it to say, the sheer number of directions I could take in terms of control options is both exciting and overwhelming. I'm currently planning to use the J74'd APC40 for sequencing, the launchpad for triggering clips and then finding some primarily encoder-based controller for adjusting parameters. (I could theoretically switch between the J74 Mode and normal APC40 mapping with a button press, but it'd be nice to have dedicated controllers for everything.)

So, I'm interested in hearing what your controller setups are when you're jamming/getting ideas down. I know everyone has their own particular workflow and I'm certainly not planning to copy someone point-for-point, but it would be nice to have a couple points of reference as I move forward.

Thanks!
