A friend called me today and said here's something I can't miss.

I saw Frank do a series of 4 appearances at Nottingham Polytechnic [now Trent University] entitled; The Timperley Lectures.
One night a week he'd come down to Nottingham and put on such a long show it had an intermission, and he regaled us with stories of this and that, along with numerous sing-a-long own numbers and covers of various hit songs. There were quizzes with prizes, and in one I won a 12" Beastie Puppets single, signed by the Beastie Puppets, lol,

In all, it was about 12 hours that encompassed everything Frank is remembered for. One show had to be cancelled due to snow but he rescheduled a few weeks later and finished the event like a true showman.

I miss him and can't find a tube that really does him justice in my eyes. Perhaps the show and film can bring it out.

Saw the film 'Frank' last night.

It's about as far away from being a bio of Frank Sidebottom as you can get. In fact I didn't think of Frank throughout the entire film; there is little of his humour and none of his music.
That said, this tale of a sad/mad musician easily stands on it's own feet. And the head looms large.

For anyone who knew Frank previously it will not corrupt your memories.
For those that first come across Frank as the central character in this movie, let it be enough. Dig into Frank Sidebottom any further and you will be corrupted but I would imagine mostly you'll be disappointed.

He sent me a hand-drawn Frank T-shirt once.
Legend.
Sad loss,so young.

This beautiful memorial was dedicated to Frank in Timperley village last year.

Just make the music that you enjoy (failing that go for a walk, watch some porn, have a fight with a random bloke until something else happens).

Awesome. Next time I'm home, I have to go and see it. Was brought up in Heald Green (although we didn't often dodge the barbed wire into Timperley.)
Anyone I knew who lived in Timperley somehow always managed to live in Altrincham and not Timperley... :hihi:

Hi kritikon the road from Heald Green to Timperley passes through Wythenshawe which was where I was dragged up lol. I now reside in sunny Newcastle, Australia. I showed the Frank statue to my kids via the link above and with a bemused look they asked "What's with the head?". "But that's his real head" I replied. I then showed them a few Youtube vids to prove the point. I think they finally "got" the sublime madness that is Frank and spent the rest of the day mimicking his nasally Manc accent. Made me proud to be a parent :D
