I recently tried Ambience in Cubase SX2, and i believe i was hit by the known bug as mentioned in:

http://www.kvr-vst.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 842#184842 (http://www.kvr-vst.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=184842#184842)

I had already added Ambience, and just touched a fader (i think it was the volume for an instrument that sends to the ambience fx-channel), and it went crazy. There was a nasty feedback-ish sound, and i threw off my headphones as fast as i could. The entire program crashed, and I restarted the machine. Then i found out that my SB Live soundcards outputs were blown. The output for the back speakers was completely dead. The front speaker output sounded like a cheap walkie-talkie with very volatile sound (the sound came and went, changed EQ automatically, etc). So I bought a new M-Audio Audiophile 2496 the same day. Causeously testing with Ambience gave the same result. Hard feedback and program crash. Luckily the card survived unharmed (as far as i can tell).

So I am just wondering, have you found the bug yet, or have some indication of what it might be? Did anyone else experience the bug?

Please note: I'm actually somewhat happy that the sb live was fried, so that i could get a new card, which i'd been thinking about for a long time :^)

I experimented a bit, and found that both FreeverbToo from http://www.sinusweb.de/index2.html (http://www.sinusweb.de/index2.html) and Freeverb2 crash just like Ambience. Now, i can't get it to crash with normal synths, only samplers. And in particular, Kontakt. This is what i do to make it crash:

1. Add a miditrack.
2. Add the Kontakt VSTi.
3. Connect the miditrack to Kontakt.
4. Add Ambience as an insert effect on the Kontakt output.
5. Play a single note.
6. Have my ears blown off by the feedback :^)

I sure hope this bug will be sorted out.

Hello,

Some old Kontakt versions had a problem with Cubase SX 2 that caused more or less what you describe, have you tried putting Kontakt in "old plugin behaviour" mode? Just select the colum in the VST Plugins list window.

That actually worked! Then i wonder, is this the known bug that was mentioned in regards to Cubase+Ambience, or is it something else? Thanks for the reply!

probably nothing to do with Ambience and all to do with an old Kontakt version. update needed.
