I cannot believe that after all this time I either forgot or have never figured out how to change the number of bars in the master track part ... either default upon open or after it initially opens.

I am sorry ... I always want to start with 8 bars ... not 4.

Help ... I need somebody, Help ... not just anybody, Won't you please, help me, help meeeah ...change those number of bars?
Help! I've fallen up and can't get down!

If I understand your question correctly, then I think you just need to first grab the thumb at the end of the time line (circled in red in the screenshot)

and then drag it to the right to increase the number of beats/bars, or drag it to the left to decrease the number of beats/bars (be careful when dragging it to the left -- it will delete those beats/bars that you clip off):

'When I was younger, so much younger than today ... never needed anybody's help in anyway ...'

Tonedef, you understand and right you are! Now I've even figured out how to insert the beats and bars in the parts. If you start at the time between two parts and insert, it adds on to the second part. If you insert anywhere within a part, it stays in that part.

Whew! glad I've got that one under my belt.

Hmmm... I think that having also the choice to set by default
"Always begin a new line with: 4/6/12/16 bars"
for each user could be a good new option to have in the tab
"Settings/Miscellanious".

A new line in the to do list,Attila ? Not urgent, heh...

I'm gonna crosspost this request in the Feature requests thread.

OK. How should it work?
At the moment it works like this: if you add or duplicate a line, the new line will be the same length as the one you are adding after. So if you make the first line 6 bars, all the new lines that you add will be 6 bars long. I thought this was convenient.

And don't forget the Insert button shortcut. It will insert 1 beat at the playback position. And there are 'Insert One Bar At...', 'Insert One Beat At...', 'Insert XX Beats At...' and 'Remove Region' buttons in the timeline inspector (right click on the timeline).

Thanks! :)

Duplication would stay the same. You just would enter a default value in settings for starting a project.

You already can change the size of parts as you say by inserting bars or beats in the time ruler. But you probably should add the ability to remove bars or beats in a part as well.

I am just so used to thinking about songs in 8 bar blocks or parts, i.e., verse, chorus, middle 8, etc. It would be easier to start the project there instead of having to either insert bars in the ruler or duplicate a line. It also would be more intuitive for me doing the progression, instead of most times having to go back and delete the chords.

Actually, I'd like the option to open a new project without any progression ... if it's not already there and I just haven't found it yet.

Hmmm... I'd say : very simply. Only when we start a new composition, the first line would be of the length set in this option. Simply.

The rest working as now.

This also reminds ... if it's not already on the road map ... that the time ruler should show some visual demarcation between parts and lines for easy reference to where you are working. It wouldn't need a label, just some color or thicker/ taller vertical bar at the border between two parts.

Yes, a separation line one or two pixels thicker, it would be far easier to implement (I guess) while being very nice to see.

I see, that is easy to implement.

You can do that by making a selection on the timeline and click on "Remove Region":

:D

I'm curious what happens if the selection and removal overlaps more than one part (or line)?

I'll have to check it out and see.

Dag Nabbit....I was trying to do this just the other day and couldn't figure out how to delete the area.

I should have known it was simple and already there; just didn't know to look at the inspector

So many useful ideas already there. :hihi:

Thanks Attila! :tu:

Happy Musiking!
