Ok I have a friend who is willing to spend just under $2000 for a small recording setup. He is a recording artist who is used to working at places like the Banff Centre for Arts recording studio so quality is important. He is a songwriter who plays guitar and sings and already owns a very high quality microphone but what he needs is a good recording system.
I decided to recommend him the new $800.00 Apollo Twin Duo because I thought it would impress him because of the quality of the UAD platform and the build quality of the hardware. He also owns a Macbook Pro with a thunderbolt port so for a near latency free recording setup I thought this would be ideal. Also one of the main reasons I chose the UAD Apollo is also so he can use it for playing live shows with because it does have a decent set of UAD2 effects plugins that you can buy.
Now for monitors I looked around, read a few reviews and came across this Dynaudio DBM50 speakers set which costs around $998.00 for a pair. He does not have a dedicated studio space but does have a desk which he plans on converting into a small recording area so I thought these would be good enough. I read this review from SOS on the speakers and thought they would be perfect! You can read the article here if you want. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/oct12/a ... -dbm50.htm
The only downside to the DBM50 which the review goes over is if you lack a mains ground which im not sure he has.
Anyways do you think this is a good setup? It's pretty straightforward and provides a good level of quality for recording.
Dynaudio DBM50 and UAD Apollo Twin Duo?

After looking into many monitors I settled on the Equator D8 studio monitors... Have used them for many months and don't have any regrets. Sound field and tonal balance is excellent, also easy on the ears after long sessions.
