DNA for Molekular Reaktor

Post

After some very intense weeks, I just released this set for NI's Molekular FX:

DNA for NI's Molekular is a Snapshot Bank which requires the full version of Reaktor. It contains 98 presets with 4 variations each in the Morphing section, making use of the sophisticated modulation system inside this unique effect instrument. Some of these snapshots orbit more on the sonic outskirts of the musical universe, some are variations on a theme.

Beautiful ambient, ethereal, mysterious and haunting textures are waiting for you, stuttering and glitchy temposynced mayhem for spicing up loops and beats, moving Filterscapes and stereo animators to process pads and other horizontal textures as well as some experimental sounds that are beyond any categorization.

All presets have the 5 positions in the morphing section programmed, these can be used as a starting point for morphing between the complex effect modulations in each preset. Each preset also has more or less complex morphing modulations assigned.

All snapshots are programmed 100% wet for Molekular to be used on a send bus. If you insert Molekular directly on an instrument track, use the “Dry“-knob at the upper right of the GUI to blend in the unprocessed audio signal. You can view/download a PDF with more info about DNA here.

Patch categories:
  • Atmospheres – 42
  • Filterscapes – 9
  • Glitch&Stutter – 23
  • Pitch Generators – 15

The demos below were produced by mainly improvising live on tape with various instruments from my own sound libraries, only using Molekular and the presets from DNA. Please also check the videos below.

Thanks, Simon.

Having made a few dozen Molekular presets I know how much effort is involved.

It doesn't take too long to make something nice, but to add all the modulations and morphs to make it more interesting takes hours.

It's comparable with making patches for Alchemy, where the modulation assignments and the setup of all the controllers, x/y-pads plus the invention of eight useful snapshots can take up many, many hours per patch, although for Alchemy Banks you also have to produce the samples, hire musicians, buy or rent instruments and whatnot...I'm glad I explored Molekular so deeply, now I have tons of new FX sounds to use in my own work as well.

Will grab this after pay-day. Have found Molekular to be powerful and mysterious but haven't had much luck getting useful sounds yet. Maybe i'll learn something from your approach?

Reverse-engineering my patches could be helpful for folks who haven't achieved satisfying results with Molekular, or just use the patches in your music, there is plenty of useful and very musical stuff in DNA, I would say - but I'm biased :)

Two more DNA videos:

Jamming through the presets from the category Glitch+Stutter using some of my Tremor Beats as source material:

Improvising through the first 15 presets from the category Atmospheres using various sampled instruments as input source:

I was just having some fun with DNA presets inside Molekular after programming/playing a simple beat with Groove Agent 4:

I was just testing the pickups in my new violin, this lead to a pizz loop which wanted to be processed by Molekular using a preset from DNA - some pitchshifting with MeldaHarmonizer is also taking place:

Thanks for making DNA for Molekular.. I've been rolling with these patches for this awesome effects powerhouse this last few days, I tried all kinds of configurations for my setup, with Numerology Pro 4 alone, then piping midi from Numerology to Logic X and using MTC to sync, triggering NI's polyplex's virtual pads from my blofeld keyboard into it last night Then just noodelling on my keyboard playing AAS Lounge Lizard patches into it and trying and tweaking patches, glad I got the full Reaktor now so I can save my variations.. Life is good in Sonic Stocks of Sounds Hausen,, Logic X is a gorgeus playground too.

I've been delving into the manual for both Molecular, Reaktor, and the DNA bank and am learning much..

Logic X is mostly very intuitive to get started with so I'm feeling pretty satisfied with the sound station upgrades made this last while.

Big thank you once again for all the great work you've been doing these last years..
waves break, but somehow it all makes sense.

Sounds like a powerful system you have built there - one tip with Molekular and DNA: also try disabling the Motion/Automorph function which I used in every patch, then morph manually between the 5 morph positions and automate these movements in your DAW. On top of that the assigned Macro knobs often provide additional tweaking/sound options.

One day I will just have to take a long break, lock myself for a few month and play/compose with all those sounds I created over the last years, that will be very rewarding indeed :)

Now I've created a Kore template for Molekular I can do that for each patch (plus add some additional positions) - except maybe I should wait till NI fix the missing automation bugs?

I've been putting all else on hold. DNA for Molekular is that intrigueing..

I set up my discreet drum sequencers so I now am using 60 sequencers all patched together to create my own semi random drummer, this is being fed into a 16 pad Ethnic inspired Numerology Pro 4 drumset, I use a dedicated instance of Molekular for the Bass drum, and two instances of Molekular for the rest of the kit, though this setup will likely get tweaked with farming out the different sounds out by frequency range so I use three or for Molekular instances for the kit. Additionally I'm using one Spectral Excursions sound into a Molekular for some crazy animalistic cohesion..

It all sounds a little mechanical in a campy sort of way. But It's an early version, later I'll tweak the swing to get a natural feel going...

I watched some of your videos of working with the DNA patches, and noticed that you manually worked with the morphing window and was trying it out. Very nice way to get into it.

I really see these patches as good starting points where realtime interaction and further tweaking to better fit the timing of the material is necessary to get the most out of it. Also levelling is difficult so on this last track I slapped a NI solid bus compressor on the drumkits output which really helped to bring out the sound quality..

I can see this will be a very instructive and enriching time working with DNA and Molekular..
