Ooh, they've done it using layer partials. Nice.

Although I fear that may earn them a nastygram from Roland.

LA-50 is a library of sounds meticulously sampled from a Roland D50, The upper and lower tones of each patch were sampled separately and their levels, pans and modulation can be adjusted independently. In total there are 100 instruments made from 2,486 samples - 2GB uncompressed. The samples were recorded dry, then carefully matched reverb impulses were created using a Roland SRV3030.
If they create their own patches using the D50 and deep sample those, would they breach Rolands copyright?

Post

Whether it does or not, they've seen fit to remove it for now.

This is a shame. I was about to buy this library, but it looks like it has already been nuked. Now I need to rant, regardless of how most of you developers and sympathizers feel.

Sadly, it seemed like a lot of hard work went in to making this library, that will never get to see any appreciation. As if the creation of the original samples is the only way to interpret what they are. What those samples can do is irrelevant in the face of the fact that they were created in the first place? We are placing all the importance on the act of them being created, and taking away all of the potential they have as tools for creating something else. Do you see how backwards this thinking is?

Copyrights and patents are poisoning people into remaining in a competitive state with one another. You compete for profits. Empathy is secondary in the name of profit. Creativity is secondary in the name of profit. Art is secondary in the name of profit.

The idea that profit is at the top of the cultural food chain is not compatible with the post internet world. Information should be free. No one has the right to hold information from other people when there is virtually no obstacles to the transfer. Instead of helping each other improve and evolve, we have people fighting for what is theirs.

Human beings stopped evolving the instant that currency was created. Currency is not recognized for the actual device that it is. A holding pattern for evolution. No one will evolve without first paying those who figure out how.

Sorry, Binary Music... I wish I could still pay you anyways for your recent hard work. You attempted to create something huge, from something long since dead, and look what it got you.
A heaping dose of outrageously goofy synth tracks, scores and chiptunes.

Hi,

i was one of the lucky oes to be able to buy the librtary before it was discontinued (which is very sad as this is an awesome Kontakt library and most of the patches are new and no factory sounds...).

Now for the second time i got a PM about if i would sell this to them.
In the first one it was even asked that if i don't want to sell if i could provide a free copy.

For those who want to ask: I will keep this myself and will not do illegal stuff like e.g. providing fre copies.

People actually do that?!? lol
My main tools: Kontakt, Omnisphere, Samplemodeling + Audio Modeling. Unify = godsend. Tari's libraries also rock.

Funny thing is that the member who sent the second PM regarding selling the library seemed to have just joined KVR to ask this.
For a second i thought it is maybe the same as in the first PM with a new account...

Normally I would've suggested forwarding the PMs to Ben [KVR], but if they were new accounts then it hardly seems worth it.

Anyone who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.

Nothing like being tech-stalked by a synth dork.
You need to limit that rez, bro.

Really, twice is not so bad though...

Spare a thought for the poor dev, who is probably sick of hearing about it.

Easy solution - disable PMs.

I've read the threads . . . and the Facebook posts . . . and after great consideration I have decided to proceed ethically: when somebody sends me a copy of LA–50 I will send $25 to Binarymusic, $25 to the charity of your choice, and $2.50 to Eric Persing . . . Or should that be Roland? Whatever . . . both.

I wonder if Big Eric has authorized the release of this new rompler?
Los Angeles-550 library is a RömplerStillSkinned bank based on the famous 1987 Roland Linear Arithmetic synthesis module. It contains the 64 factory patches of the harware [sic] synth/module.
