Is there really no good soundfont editor?

I want to make some multisamples available for the community. I've finished processing the .wavs and now I need to map them to a format. SF2 is the obvious choice since its readable by almost anything. However I need a sf2 editor. The options seem very poor though:
-vienna: don't think it works in win2k, and I no longer have a sblive anyway
-awave: hella expensive and its not exactly user friendly. It appears you need to set ADSR per-note! ie. in a multisample w/ 15 samples I'd need to edit them one at a time. Also it doesn't audition the sample w/ ADSR so for each change you need to export and play in sfz.
-alive: heard this needs a sb live too...
Are these really the only options?

VSampler 3 is also a soundfont editor, not only a sampler.

Thanks for the responses. SFZ+ isn't an editor I don't think though. It can load sf2 and modify its settings, but it can't create sf2s. EXSC looks nice, tried the demo - but it also can't actually create sf2s. It can edit them, although it lacks all the options I require.
I don't really want to do anything fancy - just a simple stereo sf2 with some velocity filter cutoff mod and some velocity amp mod. Should be easy! Right? ?
edit: it might be doable in vsampler but thats beyond my budget just to create sf2s.

Hmm, maybe you have to create the sample maps in another format and then convert to SF2. I remember a long time ago doing this in Logic with the EXS24. . .
Just a thought.

Unfortuntely the only sampler I have is Reason. And no conversion software so I can't really go that route.
I'm strongly considering releasing the samples in NN-XT format (not refill packed). Its so easy to map samples and set up the simple modulations I want in Reason its ridiculous in comparison to this sf2 bs.
But I do want to make the samples available to as wide a group as possible, not just Reason users, so I'll see if I can find some sort of alternative I guess...

Also consider getting CHAINER and then loading sFz inside. Export the converted SF format samples thru CHAINER.
Both are free and robust.

Hey floyd I think Atonal's idea will work (and both programs are way cool)but why does it have to be perfect at first? Upload the WAVS and the NNXT stuff, get some feedback, maybe somebody else will convert them, etc.

I totally agree! NN-XT is a breeze to use... not to mention easy on CPU and chock full o' cool modulations and features!floyd wrote:I'm strongly considering releasing the samples in NN-XT format (not refill packed). Anyway, if you want to go ahead with that, I've handed over some NN-XT patch file handling code to the Extreme Sampler Converter guy (Wlodzimierz), so hopefully there will be another method for conversion in the future.

I know, there is that option too. Maybe if someone likes them, who has the proper software/knowledge, they can convert to sf2.gizmo wrote:Hey floyd I think Atonal's idea will work (and both programs are way cool)but why does it have to be perfect at first? I already have a few multisamples done and will release them soon - going to coincide it with the opening of my new website. And no, you won't have to jump through any hoops to dl them, nor will their be wacko license restrictions: free use period, just no repackaging for sale.
As for the sfz/chainer suggestions, I don't see how thats possible. Chainer exports unlooped sf2's. My wavs are already looped and the patches I'm making certainly require looping.

Yeah that might work. I have DS404. tbh though that program has possibly the worst interface I've ever seen. Function keys and dials?? I just tried mapping a few samples and its just awful, even for a free vsti. The other problem is that there is no guarantee that tweaking DS404s filter and velocity will sound anything like the final sf2.
We'll see, I might be motivated to try that route another day... But as it stands I will likely release the NN-XT patches + raw waves and you guys can go hard w/ whatever sampler you like.

Load FLStudio VSTi into Chainer.
Load all your samples into FL sample channels. Set all envelopes / fx. Define key mapping and put them into a layer.
Export as soundfont from Chainer.
