Heya peeps,
I have been tweaking and playing my pitch to MIDI guitar converter-
2SYN , a lot just recently.
IMO it is working really great,
it's a bundle of fun.
I want to market it successfully-
any hints?

I think the product is basically there-
but I have no users, only me.
I am trying to find a guitarist who I can help fiscally
get the required hardware- a hex pickup, breakout box,
6 in soundcard and Win PC.
The guitarist will hopefully help me making demos and spreading the word,
so it is something of a job.
The pay can be by profit-share, I cannot pay a salary.
So it will be a negotiable percentage of net.

Is anyone interested?

This is now an outdated version-
it's getting better and better.
There is a piano demo in the audio demos,
like I say it is more accurate now.

You could check Gearslutz to see if anyone's got that gear setup, as they like hardware stuff. It seems like the majority of guitarists don't use message boards often, can't say I blame them.

Well, I don't have any of that stuff, and actually I'm pretty low on time to test plugins, I got a new cat and she wants to play every 5 seconds.

Oh, i've been playing 25+ years and still play quite a lot.. Actually my job 4 days a week revolves around playing guitar.. I've studied jazz in a 2 year college course and can also play bluesey rock in the Hendrix style as well as acoustic/ rock/ country etc i also have used midi guitar and have been using ableton for about 6 years. I can send you some examples of playing (not at the minute tho) i have a sound card (novation x-station) but it is only 2 input.. I have a strat (single coils), a evh musicman liscenced copy (humbuckers) and a line 6 variax as well as an archtop (neck humbucker) i dont have a hex pickup currently tho. Any way i'm interested. I'll download the product to have a look tomorrow, here australian time. Pm me if you like

with my thoughts on how to proceed.
Certainly I'd like to hear some audio.
I have a half built tele and a broken Presonus Firestudio project soundcard.
I can get these into shape and lend them to you.
I am perfectly happy to share the schematic/coding-
and you will be able to load it in the FlowStone trial version.

If you can get low latency and it works on bass, that would be really cool. Actually everything seems to be pretty high on latency, even that Kickstarter Imitone didn't seem to do very well.

latency is 33ms on high E.
It feels responsive,
no noticeable delay.
I have been a/b ing with Roland GI-20,
and it is comparable.
I've got to do that test again-
and see which is better.

If you get a bass rig,
I will too-
and dial the filters to track an octave lower.
It seems unnecessary though.
Because it's MIDI,
you can just detune the pitch down on 2SYN or the synth u r playing.
So it means you can play thick bass on an electric.
I really like this actually,
coz it is so quick and easy compared to bass strings/fretboard.

The reason for the latency is->
the attack of a pluck is percussive.
It takes that long for the string to settle into a stable wave.
You can decrease it, but the read is less sure.
Like I say, you can't feel the delay when playing.

edit-actually RBR,
if you would like it for bass, I will do all I can to get a MIDI bass
to you. The first thing I would do would be to change the software
so it uses a normal bass pickup. We wouldn't really need chords anyway.
You could use your existing gear in this instance.
Should I make up the plug?
However quad would be superior-
if it works very well, in time we could fit a bass for you.

I tried it on bass,
It's not that good.
I think I can get the tracking right(it's really close),
however, the delay required is 4000 samples,
so it is around 100 ms.
I will get the tracking perfect and upload it however maybe.
It means a bass can be used to score.
IMO- it is too slow to enjoy playing.
The speed would be better with hex,
G would be some 2800 samples IMO

edit- just to outline why there is so much delay on bass a bit more-
Low E cycles at 20hz, so it takes 2000(50ms) samples to cycle once anyway,
it requires a cycle to measure the frequency when 0-crossing based

I don't play professionally any more, but I've been playing guitar for a long time, decades, and I'm fairly synth-savvy. I'm very interested in guitar to MIDI, or to put it differently, I wish I was as fluent on keys as I am on guitar, because the range of sounds available via MIDI is so huge.

It's just that most of the available convertors aren't very good. I've never played the one I understand is the current best of breed, the Fishman Triple Play, because I don't want to put that much money into something I'm not at all sure I'll want in the end.

Anyway, that's your competition, I'd say. You might want to check it out, if you haven't already, and evaluate what you've got in relation to that.

I've never tried a Triple-Play,
you're right- I prolly need to get one.
I have used GI-20 a lot,
and yeah, it's not that pleasurable to play.
The biggest problem I had was dual-triggering.
I have to use a .46mm pick to play piano.
Also it is not that lightning fast.

The triple play is $700 here in Oz,
and I'm thinking my soft will be $150,
it is currently $50.
The pickup is $200,
although maybe I can get that down
(by winding them myself)
A soundcard is around $500,
but it's re-purposable for multi-track recording.
When I have ironed out every kink in 2SYN,
I will send a pm if that's OK and include the soft.
You can try each string independently with a normal pickup,
and thus gauge the performance.
How does that sound?

I am missing bends at this stage,
it's no biggie for me-
but I understand it could be for others
and will implement it in the product if I can get it working well.

I don't think I can help, but I'll try to follow the project since it sounds interesting.

I use the Axon AX 100, Gtak, and a secret beta guitar-midi thingie that never got released so my midi guitar needs are pretty well met already.
I just watched a JamOrigin Midi Guitar demonstration and was impressed with it.
