I was just analyzing my samples folder and I found around 6,000 different kick samples...

Now I don't have time to listen to all of these. Is there a program which analyzes all my kicks and finds the right ones?

For example, let's say I need a real deep giant monster kick. Then I would type this into a search field, and the program would find all kicks that sound like real deep giant monsters. It shouldn't search only for the names. There might be kicks with interesting names like "Kick_22" or "Kick_58" but they still might sound real monster-giant deep and should be found by the program...

Well obviously the answer is you need a real analogue drum machine.

Pfft. Samples. What a joke!

All those bits going "on-off-on-off-on-off". How is that gonna sound PHAT?

:hihi:

I suggest listening to all 6000 samples, should take maybe 15 minutes right? If you have fl studio you have one click to listen and if it sounds good open in new channel, after all your favorites are opened save song then save all audio data option puts all your samples opened into a new folder of your choosing in one go...

I remember someone talking about an idea for an app/vst that would scan your samples folder and sort them by length, freq, type etc. Hint hint DC14

The best thing to do is learn how to make and process your own kicks.

6000 samples = 15 min = 900 seconds
6000/900 = 7 kicks in one second.

Then say two hours, that still isn't too long. This is exactly what I have done and I had alot more than 6000 samples. Isn't it worth it.. Now i have all my favorites narrowed down in one folder and can be used for years, so a few hours is nothing I highly suggest narrowing down all your samples even loops so whenever you are creating a track and need new samples, once narrowed down theres a good chance coming up with something good much quicker and youll never have to sift through useless samples... Its common sense right?

yeah, the problem with attributes is that you first must sit down and fill all the category with every sample in your database before you can use it. if the basic work is done then of course it can be really a time-saver. i think there's no way around if you want to have it this way.

I had a similar problem, I've oodles of samples. So, I spent some time, here and there, going through ones I like and didn't. Now I've a 'best of' folder (applies to all my drums). And because I like processing my own Drums, I have a sub-folders for clicks, distortion, Noise, etc.

I've stopped trawling through hundreds and hundreds of drum samples to find the 'right one' for the song. If I like one in the first 30 I try, then it's getting used. :)

I'm pretty picky about buying samples as well, so I don't waste time with a bad source (can't polish a turd and all).

Usually I don't buy "Deep giant monster kicks - Volume 599" - because I don't like over-processed stuff with loads of distortion & reverb that you cannot process with effects anymore. I rather have a few good kicks that I can shape myself!
