Clue is in my name, im a wannabe Garage producer. I am armed with nothing but magix music studio/maker. i am not the sort of person who can walk out of his house like a boss and pick up a copy of FL11 (im only 13!) so i need some tips on how to make a garagey sound using the tools I have.

I have no swing knob on my default drum plugin (beatbox II) and the drum machine I found that did (thedrumsource) doesnt seem to support midi. also I dont really know much about the formula for garage, I sample beats and chords from other house/garage songs but it never sounds very good. help?

Magix is not for real music production, it's a toy. Forget about it. :borg:

I made quite nice track with it back in 2002, but to actually create the music you want, you need real DAW.

bollox.
you can make music on magix,i'm sure.
try asking in the 'hosts' section for other magix users.
i don't have it,but tried it many years ago and did a garage tune,so it did have swing on the beatbox back then.
there's lots of free vst drum machines, and samplers and bassline synths too.
no need to spend a penny.
there's also Reaper which has a free version i think,in case magix is too limiting.
get comuter music mag, that has loads of free stuff too.
good luck.

Any genre You want to play or produce, You need...

1: A spontaneous\prolific creativity
2: Listen to a lot of music genre you love
3: Learn the basics of mixing

PS: I presume that 13 years old boys can't stay here... the web is a seedy place...

Anyway Good Luck

Yeah he's 13. He's a producer. He needs at least Pro Tools, KONTAKT Ultimate and a real garage where he doesn't disturb his parents... :P

(Seriously, of course it's possible to make Garage music with MagiX Music Maker...)

Tricky, probably MAGIX it's a toyfull software (I've worked with Samplitude, very practice, pro and usefull), not so various possibilities and features as Cubase or others (I hate protools and logic) but... why not???

I don't wanna destroy the dreams of a young teenager but seriously, as Tricky says\did: rent a real garage, away of parents!!! :hihi:

Music Maker is for beginners, Samplitude is for professionals - but that doesn't mean that you cannot make Garage tracks with it...

You can also make Garage tracks with the free LMMS Studio, so why shouldn't it be possible with Music Maker?

Someone told me that his kid - age 13, too - is using Music Maker for creating soundtracks...

Up to 99 tracks (in the normal version, not Premium) with VST support should be more than enough for Garage music...

When I was 13...well, I had my first computer back then in the 90ies, an AMIGA 500, and nobody told me that I could make music with it! Sometimes I wish I could be 13 again, but today - it must be a great time for starting musicians!

just a quick look around,maybe something might help;

how to do bass

.....you don't say which magix version you have...there is 'shuffle' slider on the beatbox i saw.
though tbh,i found magix a bit restricting. i'd get Comuter Music and try the free stuff on that, they used to have a free version of energyXT sequencer which is better really.

Not free, but there is an uncrippled 60 day free trial. You are then required to buy a license (which is very reasonably priced!).

Oh THATS what its called! It is there but I was looking for something called swing, just like the DAWs i had seen on tuts. thanx! I will check the bass plugin out if I get time soon too.

It's mostly about plugins. You may wanna use that free tool for drums.

I lost it all when I went to ... If I were 13 and making music I'd D/L Audacity and all it's plugins(RTM). It doesn't cost nothing and if it blows you have nothing to loose. Play too your music and not too your equipment. If your music sucks then you can spend a fortune on equipment and it won't make a differences.

Best of luck,
Gary

I look at music as a means of expression. I'm not gonna be a famous musician or producer so none of it is a waste or "bad". It's like meditation, it gets my head where I want to be.
With that in mind, get whatever tools you think can help express yourself. :phones:
