Akai MPK25 Being A Pain Or Me Being Generally Clueless?

I've bought an Akai MPK25 to pair up with Live Suite 9 and that's the problem, it's not pairing up well at all. I'm trying to assign the rotary knobs for different purposes but they never stay assigned. Knobs K5 to K8 are auto assigned to channel volumes and I don't want them to be. I've assigned K1 to the filter cut off in Sylenth1 to record a map but it's so unresponsive or forgets it's purpose and I've ended up plotting the map manually, rendering the knobs useless.

Please tell me it's just me and my inability to comprehend how it's done, or is the Akai just generally shit at knob assigning.

Sounds like prepatched CC messages to me. A lot of synths come with "standard" prepatched midi assignment. Can be annoying sometimes if you don´t know ho to get rid of it.

I dunno Live and how to set the parameters accordingly but if you don´t find a way in stopping this you can always look for some kind of MIDI/CC event filter/blocker.

You can also change the CC value inside the MPC (either with the delivered software or within the device itself). Mostly all synths have some range that is not assigned (I use most of them in the CC 40-60 range) so you have either to change the value manually inside the MPC or with a MIDI filter plugin that changes the value of it (eg your MPC sends CC 20 and the filter changes that value to an unused one like 45).

After that you can assign freely assign all midi learn to your knobs and sliders without altering the above mentioned problems again.

If you don´t find a suitable MIDI blocker/filter download the MIDI tools from Insert Piz Here: http://www.thepiz.org/plugins/

I hope this helps.

Btw another thing you should check: when and how does your knobs work? I am using Reaper and I have numerous options like "use knob only when device focused" or "device does not have to be in focus (globally assigned)".

Gavvo, FWIW, you can make MIDI assignments in Live.

It may benefit you to read RTM.

I'm not a my DAW to be able to give you better advice at the moment, but I did find this:

And this:

Sometimes choosing the correct preferences can be confusing in Live. Definitely RTM about how to "Set up your MIDI controller" pages.

Then read them again like the rest of us to get a better understanding what they said. :hihi:

I'm not familiar with Live controller mapping, but be sure to read the Vyzex (Akai editor) manuals. I've had an Akai MPD32 for years, and actually RTFM-ing last month was very helpful. If Live won't do what you need, you should be able to create mappings and store them on the Akai.

Thanks for the replies. I've reluctantly decided to sell the MPK as it does far more than I need it to and I'm clearly not going to get the use from it.

Sorry if I've wasted anyone's time.
