Don't be ashamed to admit it if you like them too

Currently I think my top 10 (in no particular order) would be:

An American in Paris - imho the highpoint of the 'classic' American musical form
West Side Story - the one that broke the 'classic' musical mould and created something all of its own
All that Jazz - my favourite Bob Fosse film
Cabaret
Sweet Charity - the plot is a bit thin but it has some of the best music and dance numbers
Jesus Christ Superstar - the only ALW I can stomach - the singing is just extraordinary and powerful
Carousel - my fave Roger's and Hammerstein - and the least cheesy
Phantom of the Paradise - an underrated classic
Fiddler on the roof - makes me cry but full of life and heart
My Fair Lady

actually I might have to add Carmen Jones to make 11 - Dorothy Dandridge

I really only know 2 of them:
Fiddler on the Roof & Jesus Christ Superstar.

Fiddler is amazingly well written...
I haven't seen JSC since I was in my late teens (a long time ago) but I identified with it at that point in time. Not sure how much I'd like it these days.

Nightmare Before Christmas

Yeah, obvious ones but that's me and musicals.

I could add Grease; cracking songs but a bloody awful story. But still better than Mama f***ing Mia...

I was just thinking of plays/movies where the characters (real or animated) regularly burst into song to advance the story.

I'm not really a fan of musicals, although I did see Jesus Christ Superstar but omg that was 40 years ago!

Enjoyed Nightmare Before Christmas, and Sweeny Todd.
