I've been using my Sony MDR 7506 headphones for about 4 years now - i think they're great for studio monitoring but now the pads have started to flake. I'd like to replace but I'm kind of put off spending ££ on headphones with pvc pads as i realise they're all gonna flake someday - does anyone know of any alternatives or should I just put up with the fact of life that headphones only last 4 years or so.

You can just replace the pads if the phones are otherwise alright; I've bought velour pads from ebay for other models for around £10 inc p&p. I've a feeling those Sonys are compatible with some of the beyer-dynamic pads (read too many articles on head-fi.org... :)) so there's that option too.

Otherwise, when my old audio technica phones started flaking, I just got some sticky tape and pulled off the remaining pleather leaving the bare foam. Very comfy and have lasted years (thought the foam may breakdown without the protective pleather but not the case).

My headphones have almost completely flaked off. Doesn't affect anything. :phones:
