I interested to know you who spend your full time in the studio or home studio in front of computer and produce music, how do you supply? Do you have extra job on the side?

I would be surprised if users didn't

I am a hobbyist, and need a day job to keep me in beer 8)

Maybe the right title should be "Do you produce beside working?" ;)

I am just a hobbyist too.

Poll?

Overwhelming majority probably have jobs. I'd like to know how the rest make ends meet? Work in the industry? Rich parents, lottery winners, or lucrative sidelines in drugs, alcohol or human trafficking? :D

Options trading .. Can be very profitable and a very effective risk management tool if used with the proper discipline and knowledge.

I've been a professional composer/producer for many years and I've been able to live very well from my work.
But to be totally honest it has got unbelievably hard to keep that income up to a level where I'm still able to pay the rent/food/health insurance and for soft/hardware etc. The internet and technology have taken music out of the hands of dedicated professionals and created incredible competition in the shape of talented hobbyists willing to work for next to nothing. I didn't have a problem with this as I think talent will out and it also made me work harder to be a better composer, but as time's gone by clients have taken advantage of the situation and started to play musicians against each other, creating a situation where prices are being dumped to such an extent that some clients expect people to work for licensing fees (mechanicals) but not production fees. There's a lot of work now, maybe get paid later going on...
The live scene is not much better... A percentage of the door (if you're lucky.
I don't know how long the industry can last if there isn't a fairer way of renumeration. But one thing is true... music is as important now as it ever was, it's just seems to have paradoxically lost it's value along the way.
Some of my best friends are in well known bands but still having to keep part time jobs to pay the rent.

Beside composing I teach synthesis and MIDI, and I have a wife and a dog. That's it!

Love it :)

I am a hobbyist. I've worked my whole life. Until I was diagnosed with cancer. Inoperable, incurable. I Subsist on SSI disability. I have time to "produce" , but not the funds for the tools. Can't complain, the quality of free plugins is quite high. My therapist encourages me to keep at my hobby to relieve stress and depression. I 've a wife and four grown kids that still live at home. So there you have it.

Same here, except for comic books and VSTs. :D

I work in a warehouse, filling online orders and pushing pallets around all day. (Composing and narrating in my head all day long).
