General Midi Soundsets?

I was listening to my midi songs on my phone they sound far different than on my computer. Which got me thinking, is there any software for computer that loads midis with FAMOUS soundsets? I just want to listen to my midi songs in other soundsets without having to use soundfonts and I dont want to set the instrument patches, I want them set close to some standard like GM already(By that I mean set up in a way that if my patch in GM is a bass its not going to play a piano, but actually that would be kind of cool to hear). I just want to know if there's software that emulates the most famous ones so I can just listen at my leisure general midi in other famous soundsets? I know of 1 that sounds like nes, GXSCC. What are some major other ones I can hear midi through?

Thinking about it more it would be actually cool if there was genre specific instrumentation. Like load a general midi and it will play instruments that would be in a metal song, or alternative 90s, or punk, or pop, or country. Is there anything like that?
