Anyone use AIR Structure?

Since AIR seem to have frequent deals on AIEP this is seeming like a big-library-sampler worth thinking about?

Has anyone got any experience with it? AIR's website is hardly forthcoming with information, little indication of the sort of sounds included or anything. I'm sure i read it has some sort of incorporation of the Sonivox Orchestral stuff, presumably cut-down (it could be wrong here). Still any good though?

I got it with AIEP over Thanksgiving. To be honest it was the least impressive of all the instruments. And while the sample set disc space is huge, the number of instruments isn't. They really need to work on lossless compression. I'd bet they could compress then encrypt their samples and get a huge savings (the samples are stored in a dir called "Structure Encrypted Samples" and aren't open WAV files). The installer has issues because it was designed before UAC and the idea that the Program Files directories aren't writable so it has trouble since it tried to put its patch database there. I was able to sort it all out with some help from messages here and google, but it definitely made me think the less of it.

Doing a file search through the factory library directory I can only find 767 patches (their "Database" feature wouldn't give a total oddly enough). The same process on Sampletank 3's native content finds 4021 instruments. It was able to import some older Kontakt 2 instruments, but nothing modern. The UI really needs to be resized or have a larger option. It's also kind of clunky. Compared to XPand!2 I wasn't impressed. The instruments aren't that bad, but the download/install time for what you get seemed a bit poor.

As far as it being a sampler (and not just a rompler) the editing functions look a lot like Kontakt but the UI is very clunky. I didn't really do anything with it so it's hard to say if it's any good, but it didn't feel awesome (like the other instruments in the AIEP which are really great).

I'd be happy to dump a list of the patches if there really is no list anywhere on the net, let me know.

Had a play with it on my old studio computer after getting the update deal earlier this year and, while it is good, it doesn't replace Kontakt for me.
It was the synths from the AIEP that I was more interested in anyway, so maybe I haven't given it enough of a chance yet

The patch list above is that the whole lot or are there sub-patches with different settings (reverb, eq, effects etc)?

I'm not really interested in the synth sounds (got enough software synths as it is, can these be selectively uninstalled?), mainly interested in orchestral, natural instruments, guitar and organic drum kits, Do the guitars have realistic articulations (sound of fret-board sliding when changing notes/chords)? Are there orchestral ensembles options (Cello, violins etc) in one patch? Or would i have to make them myself? I quite like the drumkit in Independence free, feels like i can easily create realistic organic patterns from it, a lot of that comes from having a variety of different kinds of hit in each patch (snare rolls etc), do these also feel like you can create a realistic drum patch?

I know the ideal option would be a proper virtual drummer solution, and a serious orchestral kontakt expansion but i'm not making film music, it just needs to be sufficient to add a convincing (but easy) organic part to my electronic music.

Kontakt and Sampletank are the obvious first choices (i'd lean more to sampletank personally) but I'm still 32-bit and both are well out of my budget (and bloated with stuff i don't want). This however seems affordable (especially if i can sell the stuff i don't want from the AIEP), Its a shame there's no way to try before you buy here, no demo or anything.

If anyone knows of any comprehensive reviews or tutorial vids i could look at that might help.

Pro tools expert has some YouTube clips on Structure. Some of the other stuff from Air Instruments also. All section are separate installations so you install what you want.

The instruments included with Structure (for me are less than impressive) The library is not Vast but what is samples are sampled well. As far as the sampler itself i prefer Structure over kontakt. Importing and looping multiple wav/aiff files are more straight forward than kontakt and just works. Lets say you sampled an instrument and want to import raw samples to be mapped and looped.
Structure imports to root key and fills up or down quickly.
Kontakt the import function takes 3 times as long and auto map is a pain.

Air was formerly known as wizoo and merged with sonivox and some other companies to make inMusic.
Structure free is included in all versions of pro tools but no stand alone or vst demo I know of.

Automap in Kontakt is much more flexible than mapping in Structure - it's not a pain at all, but it requires understanding of what it does (and what it does is excellent). Looping in Structure doesn't have the very handy overlapping loop start-end point zoom view, which is oh-so-helpful when matching loop points.

Apples and oranges for me EvilDragon. You are correct on the start-end point zoom view. Structure has the Match length function.
Im not Putting down either sampler It is what works best for your needs Post. Kontakt is irreplaceable but i was referring to simple import.
Maybe I have been missing something on Kontakt?
While importing wav's lets say drag on drop then auto-map function. Wav Files are named 36-120 for example and I want to auto-map to corresponding key ?
After importing I have to change root notes on ever sample. Is there a quicker way ?

Hmmm, when I drag the samples into Kontakt (say chromatically) the root key is mapped to the center of the zone range (which, it being chromatic, is exactly where it should be).

In automap setup, you need to set the token that shows the MIDI note number (in your case those would be 36-120) to "Set to Single Key" - this will map each sample to a key that corresponds to that MIDI note number.

Hi there,

sorry for digging out this old thread, but does anybody know if the factory patches have different layers for keyswitching?
For example in a youtube video (by digidesign) the guy loads an acoustic guitar patch which has layers for picks, harmonics, slides, etc. Is this part of the factory patches?

Man, I find structure GUI and the whole workflow so unintuitive. Plus, you can't drag a sound from the audio track to the sampler, just ridicilous. Have to dive into folders.
