Ah, the yule buck season again. This thread is fitting for the obligatory pictorial summary. First and foremost, remember that they feed on small children, so if you have any, better just hide them for now.

It's the age old trick any average child kidnapper pulls; offer a child a gift and he'll surely come along. And can't blame them, it's freezing outside and then you meet a funny looking fellow giving you a gift, who wouldn't atleast look what's in it?
Here's a illustration of a yule buck sitting atop a mountain of trophy skulls he collected by hunting small children -- the second one's description reads 'the old time yule buck didn't skimp on the whip', because, well, he didn't. That skull mountain later on became Korvatunturi, where he still lingers on, only to go around the world in a single night every year (which I don't think is true -- it's just american foolishness for promoting Coca Cola sales).

The yule buck doesn't really give a rat's ass about if you've been naughty or nice, what matters to him is that you can provide him with alcohol and the best food the lady of the house can come up with. If you give them to him, he might beat you up less. In any case, he will leave the house with the children with him. Oh, and photos of him exist too, and he doesn't appear too charming:

In Sweden in a town called Gävle, because they have no yule bucks, they make one out of straws. Each year they make one and each year someone lights it up:

That Santa Claus is a wussy compared to the real thing. Glass of milk and a cookie, pshah!
And on top of that, we got two more different bucks here, the nuuttibucks which are largely confined in the south-western region of the country and one for kekri, the local harvest festival, but those pretty much extinct already. The nuuttibucks are a legion of bucks, come around in mid-January to your house singing off-key tunes and demanding upkeep, a real nuisance. The yule buck is the most mean and vicious buck there is, though. All these pestilent goat-humans are somewhat of a dying breed nowadays. In my youth they had already lost their horns, atleast the ones I met, yet they hadn't started dressing in all red. I guess parents are more protective of their young ones than they used to be and that has affected the yule bucks.

9. Have a nice one!
