Beginners tutorials on trance

Ive been on the internet lately and I can't find a good tutorial on trance music, usually when I find one the person doesn't speak so I kind of don't know what they're doing and some are part of a tutorial series that get discontinued or don't get a sequel or something and it makes me mad. So does any uplifting trance producer know where I can learn uplifting trance and get it? Thanks

My advice would be to pick up an instrument and start learning music theory. It doesn't really matter what genre of music you are trying to produce, the same music theory applies to all of them. Then once you've got that sorted their are sites like www.massivesynth.com that provide great tutorials on sound design and what not.
Cheers

Sonic Academy have trance tutorials. I've only seen the previews on youtube but they seem pretty good.

+1 on Sluga's post, they really know what they are talking about in the tutorial (but it is not for beginners, more for advanced producers)

tranceaddict.com has a rather long list of tutorials. Not sure how up to date it is, but it may be worth looking through.

I'm not really into trance, but I've checked out quite a bit of tutes on its production.
I'd highly recommend the Dance Music Production material, as op said. But they are heavy going, that is to say, they go into a lot of detail.
Sonic Academy have really upped their game over the last few years. I'd say they'd be worth a look too.

I didn't said a word here, sooo, trance overall is genre where some considerable level of expertise is on the line, you can do so much without sweating/faking, but people will notice it, everything you actually do above usual is going to be noticed, they are just used to hearing stuff that are on some level of dedication, sooo, do it right from the beginning, it's boring and it's detailed like a lot, so don't watch popcorn stuff like Sonic Academy that just go about copying one track and than just repeat all the tweaks they already made, skip talking about so many stuff that could actually give you some more clarity and inspiration, so rule of thumb, DMP, you can expect more than you pay for that's for sure, maybe this trance one isn't best one, could be, but their other stuff, if you have any interest in any of their other offerings, it's just pure class and worth the time and money.

I used to criticize Sonic Academy, especially for their first tutorial on Drum and Bass. To be fair though, they've grown quite a bit over the last few years. So I personally wouldn't rule them out all.Sluga wrote:I didn't said a word here, sooo, trance overall is genre where some considerable level of expertise is on the line, you can do so much without sweating/faking, but people will notice it, everything you actually do above usual is going to be noticed, they are just used to hearing stuff that are on some level of dedication, sooo, do it right from the beginning, it's boring and it's detailed like a lot, so don't watch popcorn stuff like Sonic Academy that just go about copying one track and than just repeat all the tweaks they already made, skip talking about so many stuff that could actually give you some more clarity and inspiration, so rule of thumb, DMP, you can expect more than you pay for that's for sure, maybe this trance one isn't best one, could be, but their other stuff, if you have any interest in any of their other offerings, it's just pure class and worth the time and money.
Re. the DMP stuff. I think they've done some of the best tutorials around, and definitely the most comprehensive (that I've seen). I would echo what you have said, that their other vids, Fundamentals, etc. Would give the OP a better understanding of the overall gamut of music production.
But I'd still highly recommend the DMP Trance course (at some stage). This, from a man who does'nt particularly like the genre at all, but I respect its production. And you can pretty much apply any of the principals learned and then incorporate them into your own music (or any edm, etc.).
DMP will get you there quicker then most imo. They give you all the tools, and encourage you to go out and do your own thing.
He's a wise man is Rick.
PS - Groove 3 have some good stuff too!

Guess I was little harsh towards Sonic Academy guys, but to be fair, their track record of tutorials shows they are definitely "exactly that" flavor of the month oriented, leaning towards being more on the point and focused, nothing wrong with that, I can sense that people seeking "exactly that" are seeking exactly that.
Maybe it's my personal view on trance guys, but I feel they are up there as far as creativity and dedication is concerned, more "geeky" and into it, than next "insert festival house of month thing" DJ slash producer that is all-in for the chicks, drugs, ego and bucks, on other hand trance guys love more messing around and studio time, so DMP is exactly what they are looking for and Rick is their cool older brother they never had.
DMP is more like teaching fishing and others are more like "Look at my fish, bro, wanna same, watch me"

Both are more like showing someone how to open a can of fish.Sluga wrote:DMP is more like teaching fishing and others are more like "Look at my fish, bro, wanna same, watch me"

Maybe trance ones, but others are pretty much all that can be squeezed into DVD on that particular subject that encourages going beyond what is shown and actually having deeper understanding on that matter, but YMMVMivo wrote:Both are more like showing someone how to open a can of fish.Sluga wrote:DMP is more like teaching fishing and others are more like "Look at my fish, bro, wanna same, watch me"
Care to leave something that actually teaches something more/deeper than DMP or you just don't find tutorials that usable?

I will soon be making an uplifting trance tutorial with Adam Ellis that'll be available through Sonic Academy.
