Can anyone tell me what exactly a producer template is? I am looking into buying the Adam Eliis trance template, but dont really know what it is, is it a video telling you how to create something? is it a project file?! any answers would be great, thanks.

I guess it's a DAW project file. Not sure though, you better check if there's any more details described.

A template is a project file you can load into a specific sequencer. You have a mixed nearly finished track you could see as a kind of pre-master. Sometimes you need 3rd party plugins either free or commercial. The quality of such templates vary alot.

As someone who newbly makes Psytrance... I gotta say there is already so much cookie cutter trance out there... so why would you ever need such a thing? What goes where is pretty simple.
It's not like trance is really complicated in a structural or technical way or anything. Lots of builds and repetition, building on anticipation, expectation and surprise as new elements are slowly introduced. There are lots of guides that will let you know how to make another copy-cat super-saw European-rave-trance song if that's the thing you are after.

The Adam Ellis Trance Template is something just released on my website (although Adam has released some shorter versions on producerbox).
It's a Logic 9 Project file that you can open up (assuming you have Logic 9) and study for yourself.
A full description of what's included is on the web page, which I've copy/pasted here
Included in the template:
Full Logic Pro project file
All midi files
All Audio Files
All the Synth presets
3rd party software plugins used:
Sylenth1 (v 2.21)
Fabfilter Saturn – A 30 day demo can be obtained from http://www.fabfilter.com
*All of the other plugins and effects used are built in logic plugins*
**Please note that this product was created with Logic Pro 9, there should be no problem opening up in Logic X assuming Sylenth1 is properly bridged but no guarantees can be made**

Can't see anything bad about learning technical things from templates. Different people have different approaches to learn. Whats bad for you didn't automatically must be bad for another individual.
I personally learned alot from templates - mean mostly technical stuff. I came from classic piano and sure don't need to make music by numbers.
Happy learning with whatever you feel suits your needs and don't let it get you down what someone else "think".

Adam Ellis is certainly a big (albeit new) figure on trance scene, respected producer and DJ.
I have mixed feelings about him, but that's another story.
