Opening a project with au plugins with windows in Ableton Live?

I'm beginning to work on a project with someone who uses mac and I use windows. Is it possible for him to send me his project file and I could open it in windows? I know mac uses au and windows vsti. Would ableton look for the windows equivalent or allow me to search for the missing vsti manually? If not how would you go about working on a project cross platform with someone?

When transferring projects between Mac and Windows it’s recommended to use VST plug-ins on both systems. Live will load the according VST plug-in if it’s installed and can be identified. Audio Unit plug-ins are running on Mac only.



So I'm guessing there are au plugins and vsti plugins for mac? He'd have to have the vsti mac versions in order to share the project file? What would happen if he sent me the project file using only au plugins? Would I have the option to search for the missing vstis or something else, or would the project simply not load with an error message?

Yep, you get an error message saying it can't open those plugins

Would it give you an option to manually find those vsti's? If I had him send me all the presets would I be able to rebuild the track? I assume all the other data would be availabe right..
