Opening EXS24 in Kontakt 5

I've been playing around with the new Autosampler plugin with Apple's MainStage to sample some Sculpture presets I've made into some nice EXS24 presets. However, I would like to port them over to Kontakt and while I know I could probably do this manually, I also know that in the past I've been able to open EXS24 instruments with Kontakt. Not this time however. Anytime I try to open up the instruments Kontakt crashes. I've tried it in standalone, Studio One, Ableton and MainStage so I'm certain it's not DAW related.

Am I right in guessing that it's probably an update to the EXS24 that hasn't been factored into a Kontakt update yet or has anybody managed to do this so far?

Don't know how you're trying to "open" them. I'll tell you what works [Kontakt 5.4.2.245]: get in the Browser and the Files tab. Browse to the exs instrument and select it. Now to 'Import' tab. Establish directories for the instrument and for the samples per the dialog and import. Works for the exs back to Logic Pro 8 here.

That's the only way I ever knew it to work. I had a couple of major Gigastudio libraries in yesteryear I had to convert to Kontakt [2] via [the vendor providing a version in] exs, and that's all I ever found.
Recently I dug up some older stuff and refreshed my memory as to how.

If your still having problems check that your exs.file and samples are in the same folder.

hey has this been resolved? I'm having the same exact problem right now.

Autosampler exs files crash Kontakt 5 but works fine with version 4.

Known and tracked bug, but isn't a priority for fixing since the team is heavily working on new K6 features.

But are they working on any new K6 instruments... boy does the factory library need some love!

The main program needs some love first.

Thanks ED. Works in Kontakt 4.

(Note: not a good idea to respond to posts >1 year old. In this case, PM is better. Old posts almost always have old now-untrue-info in them.)

To be specific, NI has no interest in updating the foreign loading code, at least not headed by themselves. Not a wise decision. If you are interested in any improvement please kontakt me at Chicken Systems support AT chickensys.com.

I suggest using Translator www.chickensys.com for this type of thing anyway - NI may not update, but we certainly do.

Also, please be aware that since v4.2 Kontakt files, you have no direct access (that is, if you want to read a NKI into something other than Kontakt) to modulators or filters or effects. This situation has been going on for 5+ years and again it is a very unwise thing for NI to impose on their user base. Any work that you do in Kontakt, as far as those features go, is locked away and inaccessible to you. We really, really hope NI does the right thing here -they are aware of it (for 5 years) but have shown no movement to address it. NI makes the best products but is no longer the customer-centric company they once were. Let's hope they change back - and let them know you care!
