So it seems like everyday a new Sylenth1 soundbank drops. Today's surprise is brought to you by none other than Joachim Garraud and Alonso Sound. See the "in the studio" video below. Notice that Joachim is actually using a registered version of Sylenth1.

Played around with it for hours yesterday. Good for trancy leads, arpeggios, pads. Good for ambient stuff too, nice filters, sounds good when phasered (not with the built in phaser though IMO), pitch modulation with the LFO gets you some nice effects... yep, it rocks. Loads.
Btw, don't feel the need to mention that it's a registered copy in the video. I'm sure there are loads of people out there with a registered copy.

Thanks for the link! The guy's a perfectionist; I might just get this bank.

Agree on it being the standard for EDM. But of course not for everything else, as it is a very limited synth compared to better options in 2015. The bazillion soundpacks available somehow sound same-ish to me. There are better alternatives for everything else other than mainstream EDM.

It's definitely limited compared to equally priced stuff nowadays, and i'd surely not buy it new full price, but i'm actually surprised how much you can get out of it considering it's so limited. Especially the 4 oscillators with unison feature for each one makes up a lot for the limited feature set.

Sometimes you have to get out of the same old saw-square-triangle-sine-whatever waveforms...or have different sounding filters..or have envelopes with multiple points and custom curves...or custom LFOs...or use features such as proper PWM, or ring modulation, oscillator sync, a little proper FM...the list goes on...To add variety to your sound. For what it is and what it does, S1 is excellent, but it is limited and overpriced. For its price you can get better. However, S1 being the de facto standard for EDM, that is completely true. If you want to get out of standard, there are better tools.chk071 wrote:It's definitely limited compared to equally priced stuff nowadays, and i'd surely not buy it new full price, but i'm actually surprised how much you can get out of it considering it's so limited. @ Yorrrrr: Yeah, i know what you mean. Often missed some features which i have on DuneCM or Spire when i programmed Sylenth. As i said, there's surely bigger bang for the buck nowadays. Still, for strictly analog stuff, or even if you need a lot of unison, and want it to sound good, Sylenth really delivers. And even for some limited FM stuff, it can be of use (like any other synth with a LFO in audio range which can modulate pitch of course).

Yes, I know the downsides and upsides with Sylenth1. It just struck me that an artist like Joachim Garraud (who is I assume, making money from his art) chooses Sylenth1 to make a new album and spends a good amount of time coaxing some newish sounds out of it. While it's not necessary to make money from your music it is an indicator of some kind of quality when sound designers continue to spend all that time making sounds for an old synth like Sylenth. In war the victors write the history and the same is true in business. If people didn't continue to buy sylenth and add on sound banks it would probably disappear. Very simple thing really - supply and demand. I personally own most synths that people here usually put up as better alternatives to Sylenth but I keep coming back to Sylenth for the sound.

Yeah, Obviously I don't know how many registered or cracked copies are out there but I thought it appropriate to mention since two of the biggest tracks of past years from Avicii and Martin Garrix both showed cracked versions of Sylenth1 in their Future Music tutorials.chk071 wrote:Played around with it for hours yesterday. I'm sure he owns a (free) NFR license since years. But i guess he did the soundset not alone, it's more like Alonso did a soundset in the style of Garraud or something. Otherwise he would distribute this soundset directly through Loopmasters or something...
Anyway, very basic and outdated sounds in this video. If this are really the "best" sounds of the set then i don't want to hear the rest.

guys, regarding Sylenth1
is it true the 64-bit DLL uses much more CPU to run the same patch as the 32-bit dll? i heard 32-bit is more optimized?

Indeed. Same old, same old. It's getting boring already with Sylenth1.Wildfunk wrote:Anyway, very basic and outdated sounds in this video. If this are really the "best" sounds of the set then i don't want to hear the rest.
