im not home yet and it'S boring so i was browsing how to create videos and came across LARGO, always read about it and finally saw a video with presetbrowsing, nice indeed. about 6 year old synth now, so how is it compared to new synths? it's a wavetable synth what i saw so far, so how does it hold up against serum? (i think with serum you normally dont need any WT synth maybe)
does something make it unique why yo uwould get it besides serum etc.?
it is very pricey!

I haven't tried Serum, but IMO Largo sounds awesome, both for typical VA sounds, and for wavetable sounds. Like Nightpolymath said, very nice filters too. One of the most versatile sounding VSTi's IMO.

With the recent 64-bit update also the performance of Largo seemed to be improved. Uses a quite small amount of CPU now (much less than e.g. Serum, even when using 6 voices Unison).
Also a possible memory leak was solved with the 64-bit updates which was worst when using the "old" 32-bit plugin with a bit-bridge.
Last but not least (like also PPG Wave 3.V, Waldorf Edition and Waldorf Edition 2) it is available in all plugin formats like 32-bit VST2, 64-bit VST2, 32-bit VST3, 64-bit VST3, 32-bit AAX (for Pro Tools 10), 64-bit AAX (for Pro Tools 11), 32-bit AU and 64-bit AU.

Try out the fully functional demo for 30 days, should help you decide if you can afford it or not

Hm, last time i looked it's gotten down from 229 € to 169 €, now it's even 149 €.
Fair price IMO, taking a look at what it offers. Maybe you can even grab it for less, they have discounts a couple of times per year.

Largo is a favorite of mine, I have owned a fair bit of waldorf hardware and they have a distinctive waldorf sound, if you like that sound then you will like largo. I only wish they would add wavetable import as they have with the blofeld. I agree that Largo and PPG 3.v are a bit overpriced these days, but they are unique sounding instruments and lightweight compared to the current uber synths. I would never dream of selling either of them.
I do bang on about it quite a bit these days but also demo Dune 2 which is an amazing synth in the wavetable world which seems to get overlooked a bit for some reason. I like to imagine that the waldorf people have also tried dune 2 to get some ideas on the possibilities of a Largo v2 (I wish) in terms of Msegs and Fx especially. Dune 2 does not have the waldorf sound, which you will only get from largo however.
I'm also looking forward to the VST version of Nave which I hope is reasonably priced, it looks to be more of a competitor against Serum than largo. I don't have an ipad and so I haven't experienced the current version, but it looks great!

I tried the Largo demo several times in the past couple years and really wanted to like it, because it is somewhat unique in its sound, but for the type of writing I do, nothing stood out regarding the presets that excited me much. Perhaps if I had spent more time with it , creating my own patches, it would have helped. Price rarely stops me from buying any software if it sounds fantastic, but I did feel that Largo was a little pricey in comparison to other soft-synths.....but perhaps that is because of the Waldorf name.

you get the classic waldorf wavetablesynth.
the quality is still up to date and it s very deep with many many options. if you are looking for a preset synth might not the best choice.but if you are into creating your own sounds it's greater synth.

I think this is absolutely spot on, it's a synth for starting with an init patch and seeing where you end up, although I do tend to see all synths like that anywayEsmileZ wrote:you get the classic waldorf wavetablesynth.
