You have got to be shitting me! I knew he had surgery for cancer a while back, but from all signs it was considered a success.

Man, he was responsible for some great music. Not just Gong, his solo stuff and the few recordings he did with Soft Machine were great too.

Dammit!

Gong at their best were some band. Not just Allen, but Steve Hillage, Tim Blake, and the wonderful Didier Malherbe. Thanks for some amazing music.

OMG all the greats are going! Gong was one of the greatest and most influential (particularly on electronic music) groups ever and I loved Soft machine too - going to have to have a weekend with the Pothead Pixies.

BTW, did he ever appear on any Soft Machine recordings? To the best of my recollection, certainly not the studio ones. Perhaps some bootlegs?
