I was wondering if there really was much difference in CPU usage in a given fx plugin that's stereo versus its stereo counterpart (or a stereo plug with an option to process in mono a la some PSP plugs.)
Just wondering if its worth the hassle of trying to send a stereo bass and/or stereo kick to mono groups in Cubase, just so I can use mono plugins to (in theory) save some CPU usage. these signals are just going to end up in mono anyway, so why not do this?
Mono FX vs stereo FX: less CPU usage in Cubase8?

It totally depends... Maybe the summing to mono takes nearly as much time as the processing of another channel. If I were you I'd just experiment and see what costs more CPU and whether it's really worth squeezing out another extra 0.4%.
Ask yourself why are these stereo to begin with? And figure out are these indeed stereo and not a duplicated mono source?DJMaytag wrote:... send a stereo bass and/or stereo kick to mono groups ...
We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.
