Having invented a few new sound synthesis techniques over the past few years (and releasing a handful of apps incorporating them), I thought I'd sample a sound or two from each in creating a 'song' of sorts...and a video of the 'performance'...by aliens of course :D

(...and try to hone my limited-animations skills in Sony Vegas in the process)

reminds me of matmos, pretty cool
are the apps available on android?
:ud:

Wasn't aware of matmos - thanks for bringing them to my attention :)
Sorry, haven't made Android versions of any of these as yet

So, what exactly is it that makes us associate a voice, sound or sound-scape with aliens/space? For example, why does a search on 'space music' mostly return some kind of 'ambient' or 'drone' piece? Who decided that a theremin's sine-wave-pitch-wavering was an ideal sound for 'sci-fi'?

Tradition. Cultural reference points.

I enjoyed the video. Very entertaining and slightly demented!
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

nice kinda space in your music :)

a while ago i released a vst xchanter which had a 3 band voice synth and simple % based sequencer, it basically spat out vowels to tempo. this album.. http://xoxos.bandcamp.com/album/automation

someone on kvr mentioned hearing xchanter used in an indonesian movie during a car chase scene :)
you come and go, you come and go. amitabha neither a follower nor a leader be tagore "where roads are made i lose my way" where there is certainty, consideration is absent.

E.T. & Synthesis ?

I thought that in space nobody can hear you scream, due to lack of air (or any substance able to carry vibrations) music is impossible.

well how did ripley communicate with other crew members?
also where is the earth?

its all in space, just not in the vacuum, so maybe the music is sent by radio transmission to receivers on board the yautja ships. thus they heard justin bieber which is why they came here to hunt and kill us. mainly to put us out of our misery.

yes, i am aware it was a different franchise but tbey are connected even before the goddawful crossovers.

You mean the alien, wasn't that implanted into her? So basically that should be easy to keep in touch with.

Assertions:
1. Space = No One Can Hear You Scream
2. Space = Vacuum
3. Vacuum = No Propagation Of Sound

Now, even if Assertion 1 is valid, it is not because Assertions 2 and 3 are :hyper:

Assertion 2 Rebuttal: Space is not a vacuum since it contains widely spaced atoms and molecules of cosmic dust, hydrogen, helium etc which can be displaced - whether measurably or not is a different question

Assertion 3 Rebuttal:
a) Since sound waves correspond to zero rest-mass particles which have to propagate at the speed of light in a vacuum, one has to expect transmission (even if negligible) of normal acoustic sound waves into a vacuum
b) There are examples of acoustic wave propagation which occur without altering the pressure, density, or volume of the medium (like transversal sound waves which occur without altering the volume of the medium, or so called 'second sound' and 'zero sound' waves). Thus, compressibility is not necessarily a necessary property of a medium to permit sound propagation
