Whenever I save a progression in the editor, it immediately appears in the Progression Browser and can be used in the composition. However, after I quit and restart the program, my progression is gone. Is there some extra step I am missing?

No, you are right, saving progressions, scales and chords stopped working in v2.84. This issue is fixed in the beta version. If all goes well, a major update will be released next week, probably the biggest update so far.
